The main roll lists 143 men who had worked at Chiesmans and served in various capacities in the war, mainly in the army. Photos of 11 men who died are also displayed.

Jubilee line's alleged 1970s Lewisham safeguarding debunked ➡️ ianvisits.co.uk/articles/jubil… Many years ago, I read somewhere that when the Jubilee line was planned in the 1970s, they made space for its tunnels to pass through Lewisham town centre.

Lovely photo of the Albion pub in Lewisham and the mish-mash of old shops between it and the banks/clock tower. All of the buildings up to the banks were destroyed by the 1944 V1 that hit Lewisham market.

Apparently #thicktrunktuesday is a thing, so here's one from #Lewisham village: The famous horse chestnut next to the old Roebuck on the High St (opposite St Stephen's church). Said to have stood from 1680s until the 1860s, shown here in an 1830s cyclopedia and c1850s painting.

The new branch built in the 1950s was supposedly “the most modern of jewellers’ shops in the country” with beautiful display cases in the entrance. Find out more: x.com/LewishamLong/s…

Nice bit of history about Sanders jewellers, whose Lewisham branch was destroyed by the July 1944 V1 strike.
