In Fayette County, all dogs and cats must be licensed annually starting at six months of age and rabies vaccinated at four months of age. Proof of rabies vaccination is required for the city license! Learn more here: bit.ly/3saiYbF

A songbird got trapped in the bottom of an eight-foot porch post. Captain Mitchell (AKA the Animal MacGyver) responded to the call. He attached bird netting to the end of a rod and lowered it into the post. Once she hopped onto the netting, he was able to safely pull her out!

"Thank you all so much for returning my baby Galaxy home!" Galaxy was super excited to see her family again! She was reported missing last April after she was stolen from her backyard. She was brought in to us as a stray and thankfully, had a microchip!

Here at LFACC we help several thousand animals each year, many of which aren't what you would expect! We are grateful to not only provide care to dogs, cats, horses, chickens, pigs, birds, bunnies, and more, but we also love our "creepy critters" and "slimy animals" too!

Our facility will close to the public Thursday, Dec. 31st at 4 p.m. and will remain closed until Saturday, Jan. 2nd at 12 p.m. for the New Year’s Holiday.

Update 2: Please continue to report any bear sightings in Lexington to Kentucky Fish and Wildlife or local police. If you see a bear in town, do not approach it. The bear is not in its natural habitat and is most likely trying to leave the city.

During the month of February we will be offering $20 pet microchips to the public. For more details on how to keep your pet safe contact our Animal Services Department at 859-255-9033 ext 233.

Due to high animal intakes numbers throughout July and August, we will be closed to the public on Friday August 16th to complete a detailed cleaning of our facility.
