Pleased to announce my new book Emotional Development across the Lifespan (Guilford Press). Can serve as a framework for a grad course to be supplemented by empirical readings--or just a review of current theory & research for anyone interested! guilford.com/p/camras

@BrettMurPsych @ZakWitkower @ProfJessTracy Yes, predicted facial expressions sometimes do occur with their corresponding emotion--but not as often as originally believed, i.e., not most of the time. We need to focus on identifying the factors that determine when they do or do not occur.

@NinaSteele17 @Momademia Missing your job and the intellectual stimulation it provides is totally reasonable and no reason to feel guilty. But perhaps you can find other sources of intellectual stimulation that are still available and spend some time thinking about some "big questions" re:your research.

11 days into mat leave +... Is it ok for me to feel like I miss my job? Of course I love being with baby + bonding with her all day (+ all night) but I miss the intellectual stimulation being a #NewPI provides! Feel guilty admitting this- do other parents feel similar? @Momademia

@smith_ke @childemotionlab This paper makes a very important point--related to a slightly different general point that attending to something does not automatically mean it will govern your behavioral response. There is often a process of appraisal that moderates the effect of attentional processes.

Has anyone made a highly entertaining animated video illustrating how the different covid vaccines work? Maybe it would help some people feel more comfortable about receiving the vaccine.

@rachel__walsh In a very nice way, I would take the opportunity to educate the author regarding current thinking about gender within the field of psychology as a whole. I'm sure you have received many similar suggestions from others. And no, you are not being too critical.

I'm reviewing a paper on sex differences and authors suggest females have weak "psychological endurance" as a potential explanation...this seems very offensive to me. Authors are from a non-Western country. Am I being overly critical?

Having too little time is linked to lower subjective well-being caused by stress, but having an abundance of discretionary time is also often linked to lower subjective well-being because people lack a sense of productivity. psycnet.apa.org/record/2021-76…
