Up and down the country residents are stuck with councils that simply do not represent them. Even in a hung council, First Past the Post delivers too many seats to the largest party. Proportional systems would bring balance, while First Past the Post throws it out the window

@thelivingvote Ed Davey, our party leader, and a number of our MPs have openly used the clean sweep we got in Richmond as a reason for why FPTP needs to go. Even when we're 'winning', our position has been consistent on this issue

It is indeed, but the LibDems only want to improve their own chances of power, which even they can see will never return under FPTP, so the obvious choice is change it for something that will enable that. Seriously, is there anybody in the LIbDems that is serious about, not just change for change sake, but a better electoral system and constitutional change? Reform's "Operation Restoring Justice" is identical to Project 2025. What's even worse is that FPTP is rolling out the red carpet for Reform to win a majority of seats with 30% of the vote. That is fundamentally undemocratic. It's time to fix politics.

No party should have a majority in Parliament with less than 30% of the vote - especially not extremists like Reform UK. But under our current political system - that is entirely possible. We have to fix the system before the next election - before its too late.

Does the Prime Minister think all votes should matter? He couldn't be clearer: "No" - he does not. We want to fix politics so that this country works for you. The Labour government does not.

In Richmond, Lib Dems won 100% of the seats - for 51% of the votes. In Wigan, Reform won 96% of available seats with 46% of the vote. Lib Dems do not believe this is ok. But the Prime Minister "still has confidence" in this system. What do you think?

Liberal Democrats will always fight for Proportional Representation, to make sure politics works for everyone. We may have every councillor on some councils, but we don't have every vote. Everyone's voice deserves to be heard and represented.
