Federal Judge Garnett tentatively pushed the Mangione fall trial two weeks, in order to re-arrange the voir dire process so that potential jurors aren’t influenced by press around state trial this summer

Garnett is rejigging the jury selection schedule slightly. She wants trial to start on either Oct. 26 or Nov. 2. It's a minor delay -- the trial was initially supposed to start on Oct. 13. It's a far cry from the 2027 date the defense was seeking, though.

Judge Garnett says she is "skeptical of moving the trial wholesale into 2027 when the state trial has not been adjourned." "I think it’s a little bit of the tail wagging the dog; I don't have any control over the state schedule."

Garnett says she spoke to the defense in private just now because, while the public has a right to hear criminal proceedings, "that right is not limitless." Said that their conversation, and a March 22 letter about this, will remain sealed for now.
