Roman Republican denarius showing citizens voting. One toga-clad citizen drops his voting tablet in the ballot box, while behind him another voter receives his tablet from an attendant below. Voters crossed elevated walkways or 'pontes' above their fellow citizens in order to reach the ballot box, so all could see that they had voted without any last-minute intimidation or interference by others.
To safeguard the integrity of elections, in 119 BC, the tribune Gaius Marius further narrowed the pons causeway leading to the ballot box, in order to prevent any non-voters from standing on the gangway and engaging in bribery or intimidation; literally, to ensure that there was 'no room' for interference.

In this clever marginal illustration, the medieval artist has created the illusion of a piece of rope driven through the page and attached on the other side, to support an added line of text.

@Staley4NCSenate Persimmons are a great fall fruit for in-between subtropical places that are too hot for apples, but too cool for citrus.
Some varieties lose their leaves but keep the fruit on the tree. They end up looking like spooky bare fall trees with little pumpkins all over them 🎃

These were the machines used to process rapid tests. We needed these at our hospitals in NYC. Holy shit.
Liam Nissan™@theliamnissan
Trump didn't just send "COVID tests" to his friend Vladimir Putin. He sent reusable COVID testing machines. Those were machines meant for U.S. hospitals, but Vladimir Putin used them to screen his personal visitor list

At 15, I had a day off school every cycle due to my period pain. My GP told me I had a low pain threshold.
12 yrs of suffering later, I was finally diagnosed with endometriosis.
Let’s not dismiss period pain any more, when time to diagnosis for endometriosis is on av 8 years!

In light of this bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… I am reposting my thread about how we need to take Period pain MORE seriously not LESS. The solution is NOT to force girls in pain to attend school. The solution is to fucking address their pain so they don't lose days every month.

Breaking NYT:
Trump has spoken with Vladimir Putin as many as seven times since leaving office — even as he was pressuring Republicans to block military aid to Ukraine.
Trump also secretly sent Putin COVID tests — when they were rare and hard to get — while in office.
Putin said to Trump at the time: "I don't want you to tell anybody because people will get mad at you, not me." nytimes.com/2024/10/08/us/…
