PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Alliance to Liberate Scotland Launches Bold Glasgow Campaign “The Serious Business of Winning More Pro-Independence Voices in Holyrood” Glasgow, Scotland, 19March 2026 The Alliance to Liberate Scotland publicly launches its Glasgow campaign with a public meeting in the Renfield St Stephens Hall on Bath Street, signaling the start of a no-nonsense drive to return more determined pro-independence representatives to Holyrood. The Glasgow Regional List candidates Tommy Sheridan, Dhruva Kumar, Gail Sheridan and Hilda McMahon will be introduced and speeches will be delivered and questions answered. The event will celebrate Glasgow’s proud radical tradition and make crystal clear that voting Alliance is the serious, practical route to delivering real independence representation at the heart of Scottish democracy. All Glaswegians who believe in self-determination and want to make a genuine difference to the independence movement are invited to attend this free public launch at 7pm on Thursday 19 March at Renfield Training and Conference Centre Bath Street, Glasgow. Tommy Sheridan said: “Glasgow has never been a city that waits for permission. From the Govan shipyard work-in led by Jimmy Reid which shook British capitalism in the early 1970s to Republican socialist John Maclean’s unyielding demand for Scottish self-determination and a workers’ republic in 1920, this city has always shown the way. The Alliance to Liberate Scotland is picking up that torch. Voting for us isn’t a protest – it’s the serious business of putting more pro-independence fighters into Holyrood so we can finally break the Westminster chains. On 19th March, we begin the fight in earnest.” Gail Sheridan added: “I’ve stood with Tommy through every battle for justice and independence, and I’ve never been more certain that now is the time to step up to the Scottish independence plate. The people of Glasgow deserve representatives who will fight tooth and nail in Holyrood, not career politicians who talk independence but deliver nothing. The Alliance is the real deal, confident, organised and ready. Join us at our public launch in Bath Street and help us send real independence champions to Holyrood.” Dhruva Kumar is 2nd on the Glasgow List. He declared: “This campaign is about unity and action. Every community across Glasgow old and new wants the power to shape our own future. By electing more Alliance representatives to Holyrood we turn that desire into hard seats and real votes for independence. The launch on 19th March is the moment we show Scotland we mean business. Glasgow is rising again, be part of it.” Hilda McMahon has been a life-long advocate for Scottish independence and she is the 4th candidate on the Alliance Glasgow Region List. She stated today: “Glasgow heroes like Jimmy Reid, Mary Barbour and John Maclean didn’t beg for freedom, they organised, they fought, and they won respect. That same fighting spirit is alive in the Alliance to Liberate Scotland. We are deadly serious about getting more pro-independence MSPs elected so Holyrood can finally deliver the self-determination the Scottish people demand. If you want independence, if you want change, come to Bath Street on Thursday 19th March and stand with us.” The Alliance to Liberate Scotland is a determined new force committed to one clear goal: the prioritising and promotion of Scottish independence. We believe electing more uncompromising pro-independence representatives to the Scottish Parliament is essential so Scotland can finally take control of its own destiny.

It’s absolutely vital that it’s #BothVotesIndy at #Holyrood26 — NOT both votes SNP. The cause of independence cannot be left solely in the hands of the SNP a moment longer.

Love them or hate them, right now they’re two of the most talked about figures in the independence movement. @citizentommy Tommy Sheridan and @CraigMurrayOrg Craig Murray sit down for a candid conversation about the future of the independence movement and why they’ve joined the Alliance to Liberate Scotland with @Scotpol1314 This is one you don’t want to miss.

I’ve taken a week to think about this, but here goes. When the email came in last Sunday that the Alba Party would be de-registering, I felt sick to my stomach. It wasn’t a shock, but that didn’t make it any easier reading. At the time, it felt like the last five years had been for nothing. After 2021, I felt everything we were doing was working towards 2026—to see that taken away so close to the target felt like a real hammer blow. But after reflecting with a clearer mindset, I realized: Independence was never going to be an easy one-horse destination. We were always going to have bumps in the road. As we have witnessed before. What decides our future is how fast we dust ourselves off and get back on it. That’s why I’m backing The Alliance to Liberate Scotland. To paraphrase Alex: we need a second independence-supporting party to hold the SNP’s feet to the fire. We can’t let the cause be talked into oblivion with inaction. We need MSPs who are willing to sacrifice for self-determination and we seriously need some adults back in the room at Holyrood. For me the both votes independence campaign remains, the only change is the regional list vote needs us to fully back The Alliance instead of Alba now 🗳️ Constituency: Vote for your best-placed independence supporting candidate.(whether thats The Alliance, Snp, Independent or workers party) 🗳️ Regional List: Vote The Alliance to Liberate Scotland. Back in February 2021, I wrote a good luck card to Alex as he prepared for the inquiry committee. I planned to share it when we won independence as a thank you to Alex, but now seems appropriate. To those laughing from the sidelines: you said the same in 2014. Remember the phrase: “They thought they buried us, they didn’t realize we were a seed.” In 2012, Alex took a gamble and awoke a nation. In 2021, he launched Alba and re-engaged activists who were losing hope. Those of us who joined Alba can keep our heads high. It was never about a party—it was always about the Cause. The history books will have a chapter on Alba and a chapter on Alex as the leader of the grassroots that refused to let the dream die. Now, it’s up to us to write the next one. #Scotland #TheAlliance #AlbaParty #ScottishIndependence

THE FOUNDING PRINCIPLE OF ALLIANCE TO LIBERATE SCOTLAND- INDEPENDENCE NOTHING ELSE The Alliance to Liberate Scotland was founded with a very clear and deliberate purpose: to create a political vehicle focused on one objective alone, Scottish independence. From the beginning, it was agreed that the party itself would not take positions on wider policy questions. People across Scotland hold a wide range of views on social, economic, and constitutional matters, but the Alliance was designed to unite them around a single shared goal: restoring Scotland’s independence. No other criteria were applied beyond what the law requires. Recent candidate selections were considered on that same basis. The question before the vetting committee was simple: are these candidates committed to campaigning for independence and willing to stand under a banner that prioritises that objective above all else. Following discussion, the vetting committee voted and a majority supported their acceptance. In any democratic organisation there will be occasions where individuals disagree with the outcome of a vote. While it is always disappointing when colleagues decide they cannot continue after such decisions, the Alliance respects that choice and recognises the contribution made by those who helped bring the party to its current position. The principle on which the Alliance was founded remains unchanged. We exist to provide a broad, inclusive platform for people who may differ on many issues but who are united in the belief that Scotland should be an independent nation. Our focus now is exactly where it has always been, building the strongest possible movement to deliver independence for Scotland.

I wonder if people are aware that the OPEC oil embargo of 1973 lasted six months. Yet the inflationary effects of that six month embargo were felt for the rest of the decade.
