For what it’s worth, I’ve also done to Sam what he says about Joe (similar at least). I’ve tried to reach out to Sam multiple times in good faith to hash out various issues — some where we agree and others where we disagree — and he seems to be completely uninterested despite friendly conversation/emails in the past on shared interests in meditation and psychedelics. My guess is because I criticized his views on @BretWeinstein’s podcast despite being very rational and respectful. I also don’t agree with Bret on everything even about Covid (my guess is he thinks the vaccine killed more people than I do), but we have enough mutual respect and understanding to have intelligent dialogue. I wish this was public actually because it was so healthy and good-faith but Sam and I had an extensive email dialogue/debate over differing views on Covid. It was more educational than any Covid debate you’ve ever seen (much more than the clown show of a debate that Mark Cuban and I did on my podcast). Sam is of the view that public health authorities were right in broadly recommending the Covid vaccine whereas I’ve been much more skeptical of the safety and efficacy data. Undoubtedly, that was his most substantial engagement with someone with radically different views on the pandemic (unless there were other private convos I’m not aware of). I’m gonna get shit on for even saying this, but I still credit him to a great degree for my intellectual development in high school and I continue to use @wakingup (I’m promoting them on my podcast as part of an affiliate deal) but I hope he comes around and we can sit down and have a rational discussion about this current state of informational deluge that we seem to disagree on. I’m also concerned about the rise of conspiracy theories like him, but I have a much more negative view of establishment institutions than he does so there are a few notable degrees of daylight between us. Covid, foreign policy, new media landscape, and free will are the areas where he and I most disagree on. I’ve told him I’m happy to skip debating Covid (as it may require getting into the weeds on various data which he has said he is hesitant to do in public) and stick the current issues. in any case, I’m gonna continue to show a degree of respect to him in public because I wouldn’t be where I am had I not read his books in high school (and watched his fascinating podcasts with Rogan back in the day!), but I hope we can one day talk and go over this all in line with his empowering philosophy of “conversation is all we have.” I am partly a product of Indian culture so I express a level of reverence to those that have shaped me, but I’m not afraid to kindly voice my criticism when I feel the need to.
