People going into bat for Roy Keane because he's a Manchester United legend miss the point. He isn't being criticised for his contributions as a player, that is entirely separate from this issue with Bruno Fernandes.
Keane lied when he spoke about Bruno Fernandes. It has been called a misquote, but it was worse - he lied. When called out, he responded with a childish IG story that dodged any & all accountability for said lie.
If you aren't separating player from person, you're way off the mark. Defending him based upon 'standards' is embarrassing & does not make him or those defending the bearer of them the way they think it is.
Bruno Fernandes quite literally said you're welcome to criticise me but do not lie about things I have never said. If you can't understand understand why all of this is a problem, it's because you might be part of it.

@tiredddshre Agreed but I can totally see him play a needless shot instead 😭
English

@LichaParatha He can take on both by playing ground shots or non risky shots.
He shouldn't get out like last time while stepping down to a rabada bouncer.

@UnofficialPund1 Respectfully we aren't coming at the Captain, but the person. If you can't separate the player from the person, you're missing the point by a distance. Has nothing to do with standards. Takes like this are what is embarrassing & are not the bearer of standards you think they are.

@red_to_arsenal That’s the sentiment in our fan base as well & it’s difficult for us because there is love & respect for their achievements as players but they’re doing an almost equal job of ruining their reps now. Their analysis isn’t even objective. Always about intangibles having no evidence
English

@LichaParatha I am always a staunch hater of all your 92 class as pundits. Proper clickbaity stuff and living in past. Ngl.
English

@red_to_arsenal Nobody is expecting him to correct himself, we know he won’t. That doesn’t make what he said or did right, and that’s what fans are irate about. As content consumers, fans have a right to question the quality of punditry/opinions especially when it’s not even objective or factual
English

@LichaParatha Him being unapologetic is part of his personality. You think he will correct himself. This guy doesnt give a shit about someone whoes leg he broke. 😭😭

This is always the issue with modern punditry. When they don't have anything objective or analytical to say, which is often, they report to assumptions, judgements & character assassination. Keane esp has this in spades, barely offering anything except made-up personality jabs.

Bruno Fernandes responds to Roy Keane twisting his words: “What I don't like is when people lie about things, and in this case, what you said about Roy Keane, basically, what he said is a lie.” [@StevenBartlett]

🚨 | After losing 3-1 vs Brentford in September, #mufc officials felt Rúben Amorim's behaviour was beginning to CHANGE. Key decision-makers began to think that he was looking for a way out and might actually WANT to get sacked. [@TyMarshall_MEN]
