Tonight, a dream years in the making finally crossed the stage with me. From lecture notes between radio links, assignments after long production days, research, rewriting, sacrifice, self-doubt and perseverance… tonight I officially graduate with my MBA.

I am getting baptized today, and I am so happy. No one forced me to do this. Jesus placed this desire in my heart because it is His command. Today, I am choosing to die to my old life of sin and rise into a new life, just as Jesus died and rose again in glory. As I am immersed in the water and come out again, it represents a new beginning and a new chapter in my life. Thank You, Jesus, for Your great sacrifice for me.

There was a guy in my fellowship who always looked spiritually strong. Always smiling. Always encouraging people. Always posting scriptures online. But one night after service, I saw him sitting alone behind the church auditorium. No phone. No Bible. Just silence. I asked if he was okay. He laughed softly and said... “Do you know the hardest thing is pretending to be strong when you’re actually tired of everything?” That sentence stayed with me. He later opened up and told me he had been praying for a job for almost three years. Nothing was working. His friends had moved ahead, and even some people in church had started treating him differently. Then he told me something I’ll never forget: “I realized I was praying for breakthrough, but I stopped talking honestly to God.” That night, he prayed differently. “Lord, I’m tired. I don’t understand this season, but I still don’t want to leave You.” A few weeks later, he got a job opportunity unexpectedly. Today he always says: “God can handle honest prayers too.” Sometimes faith is not pretending you’re okay. Sometimes it’s staying with God even when life hurts.

What Maria shows is that if you live your life full of friendship and service, you will leave a monument when you die. Rest in tea cups and bangles my friend. Rest in giggles and creative hateration. Rest in sneakers and gold nails. Rest in the music. I haven’t been able to post about that day at the hospital and I don’t know how to make sense of your passing. But.. rest Riri. As you knew so very well, you are loved.
