Love really is the smoothest, most painful scam out there and it’s not talked about enough. Back in 2023 I met this guy on Twitter, fine face, smooth talker, always posting motivational quotes and “hustle hard” vibes. We started chatting daily. He was working “abroad” (Dubai), sending voice notes in that sweet accent, calling me “my queen,” remembering every little thing I told him. Within two months we were planning our future, how we’d move in together once he returned, the wedding in Lagos, even kids’ names. I was in love, proper. Then came the first “emergency.” His container of goods got stuck at the port, needed ₦180k to clear customs or he’d lose everything. I sent it from my savings. Two weeks later, another story, his “business partner” ran away with money, needed just ₦250k more to fix it and he’d pay me back double. I borrowed from my sister and sent again. Every time I asked for proof or a video call, he had the perfect excuse;“Network is bad here, baby, trust me.” After ₦650k total and three months of this, he just disappeared, blocked me everywhere. A mutual follower later sent me screenshots, same guy was running the exact script on four other girls at the same time. The photos? Stolen. The voice notes? Voice-changer app. The “love”? Pure scam. I blocked my own account for two months from shame. Deleted every “I love you” screenshot I had saved like a fool. To this day, anytime a guy starts calling me “queen” too early, my brain just screams “RUN.”
