Another delightful podcast! I assume there was some hands-on editing here; you get to relish Hitchcock's intricate imagination & wonderful vocabulary, but tied to a relatively straight & informative narrative. Hope he knows how much some of us absolutely treasure this record!

For the 45th anniversary of The Soft Boys’ UNDERWATER MOONLIGHT, we spoke to @RobynHitchcock about how it was made. Becoming a songwriter, a young band at its peak, 60s retro in the time of punk, and an album chock full of power pop gems. Listen: lifeoftherecord.com/#/the-soft-boy…

Oh, this is a delight, filled with those quintessential Hitchockian verbal flourishes, observations, and anecdotes.

For the 20th anniversary of the debut @BatForLashes album, FUR AND GOLD, we spoke to Natasha Khan and producer David Kosten about how it was made. Recording outside, baroque instruments meet lo-fi MIDI sounds and a clear and uncompromising vision. Listen: lifeoftherecord.com/#/bat-for-lash…

Another great episode of this podcast! @jimjames speaks with such candor and spiritual depth about some difficult personal matters... and as with all the best episodes, it made me revisit one of my favorite albums and hear it with fresh ears and appreciate it even more.

I’d put off this episode, as an hour dedicated to a single song (and, as a non-Christmas-celebrating guy, a song that hasn’t stirred the same passion in me as in others) seemed like overkill. Of course, I was totally wrong and it’s wonderful. I teared up more than a few times!

The Pogues' "Fairytale of New York" is one of the all-time great Christmas songs. We spoke to Steve Lillywhite, Jem Finer & James Fearnley about how it was made. The song's long gestation, a key tape edit, an imagined NYC and an unforgettable duet. Listen: lifeoftherecord.com/#/the-pogues/

Lastly, we took a break from covering albums and focused on The Pogues' "Fairytale of New York," one of the all-time great Christmas songs. It was amazing to hear Steve Lillywhite, Jem Finer and James Fearnley describe the song's journey. (12/12) lifeoftherecord.com/#/the-pogues/

Peter Bjorn and John's WRITER'S BLOCK was an unlikely success story. We loved getting to hear Peter Morén, Björn Yttling and John Eriksson recount how they nearly ended the band, recorded on the cheap and still managed to reach a global audience. (11/12) lifeoftherecord.com/#/peter-bjorn-…
