An Iftar event that truly stood for us this Ramadan was speaking to children, families & guests at Frenchwood Community Primary School, celebrating their very first Iftar. Highlight was meeting 92 year old Arthur, who fasted half the day in solidarity with his Muslim neighbours.

Earlier tonight, we were proud to hand out hundreds Iftar food boxes to those observing Ramadan, PNE fans and members of our wider community. 🌙 🤝 This initiative was made possible thanks to our partners at the Light Foundation. We hope everyone enjoys the food and for those who are observing Ramadan, we hope it is peaceful and blessed. ✨ #PNECET | #pnefc

Pleased to have joined last week’s cross-party event in Burnley opening up honest dialogue on some of society’s toughest questions. Grateful for a safe, respectful space where our diverse communities could listen, challenge, and learn from one another.

Meet Reform UK County Councillor Tom Pickup, representing Padiham & Burnley West. This is now the second time in two months he’s joined us at a Light Foundation event. We brought people from opposite ends of the political spectrum into the same room to talk openly about one of the biggest issues facing Britain today: Immigration. Let me explain... you don’t have to agree with someone on everything to sit down with them, listen, and treat them like a human being. What we’ve seen in both Preston and Burnley is remarkable. People who look like sworn enemies online suddenly discover they agree on far more than they ever imagined once they’re face-to-face. Put your phone on flight mode, slip it in your pocket, and the world magically becomes a kinder, saner place. There are plenty of forces trying to divide us right now, especially online. But if someone is willing to sit and hear me out in person, I’ll always return the courtesy. Like I said, I don’t share every single one of Tom’s views, but he’s polite, articulate, and clearly sincere in his beliefs; without a trace of personal malice. I’m proud to call him a friend, and I look forward to working with him again. For everyone upset about who I "rub shoulders" with, here’s a short poem I wrote a few years ago that sums up my approach. It’s called: “I Sat With a Jew”: Do you feel upset that I sat with a Jew? And with a Christian, does that unnerve you? What about an atheist? that angers too? A gay? An alcoholic? What shall you do? One sufi here, a shi'a there or two? With the brotherhood and the salafi crew. Well let me explain what the Prophet ﷺ would do... He'd welcome everybody, black white or blue. And the house of Islam has big doors, so true. With invites for them all, not just me and you. Even if they reject, their rights are still due. We all need bigger hearts, if only we knew.
