@comicbookaddt That’s the point of Super-hero comics. They can have adventures forever. Batman, Superman, Spider-Man will always be relevant.

Robert Kirkman is criticizing Marvel and DC again because he believes their biggest heroes stay almost the same instead of growing over time. He said he loves writing long stories where characters evolve, age, and change. He pointed to Erik Larsen's Savage Dragon as an example because that story moved forward in real time with characters growing month by month. Kirkman also said the industry hurts itself by refusing to move on from ideas that have been around for decades. He mentioned Batman, Spider Man, Superman, Transformers, and Invincible as examples of properties that all started as new ideas. His argument is that new ideas should eventually take the lead instead of older ones staying at the center forever. Rob Liefeld also argued that Superman now has an Invincible problem because he believes Robert Kirkman's work is setting the standard for this style of superhero today. At the same time, it points out that projects like Absolute Batman and Spider Verse can be seen as evidence that major characters are still being reinvented.

The key word for any collectable line is you have to make it “collectable”. As in, customers must be able to collect it. Once you make it difficult to collect any key part of it, you lose your completionists.

@LilFormers Fan art is done at an individual artist scale. Its pretty harmless and there really is no transfer of rights, any publisher can easily take it down. AI is done at an institutional scale and is resold to the mass public . Two completely different things imo

I understand the position that some say training AI is stealing from people. I understand the position that some say selling fan art of popular IPs is okay. I find it difficult to parse both positions at the same time.

@LilFormers Thank you so much. Appreciate your effort to complete the collection of Shinkiro’s works in these 2 books.

I was the editor and graphic designer on these two books. It was a TON of work with lots of people helping at Capcom and SNK, especially Shinkiro and Shoei. We also had to coordinate and get permissions from a TON of third parties... video game companies, comic companies, animation studios, actors, even a baseball team! It's super cool to see the gradation and refinement of Shinkiros' art over 35 years, from starting at SNK in the 90s, to his current day Capcom work.

@Aaron_Sparrow Reminds me of how “motion comics” are not elevated comics. They are just shitty animation.

Look at how washed out and ugly the “live action” slop version looks in comparison to the gorgeous colors of the original. “Live-action” is not the final evolution of animation. It’s a bastardization.
