I think it's funny that people are dunking on this because he's right: Mark made an unfathomable selfish decision. The narrative even outlines that fact. It's absolutely not the heroic choice. It's a selfish, very human one. I don't blame him for making it, but it was selfish

That whole chapter was deliberately set up to contrast Mark with Spider-man, because Peter absolutely *would* have chosen the greater good over his own personal suffering and loss, and hated himself for it. Mark makes the selfish choice and finds happiness in it. It's on purpose.
