$SPY Video Breakdown How I Use Gamma (GEX) to identify magnets in stock prices. Gamma Exposure (GEX) is one of the main tools I use to understand where dealer hedging may influence price. I don't use gamma to predict the market with certainty. Instead, I use it to identify areas that are more likely to act as support, resistance, or magnets for price. The first thing I look for is where dominant gamma exposure lies. Most stocks have both positive and negative gamma at different strike prices. But The key isn't simply whether gamma is positive or negative—it's determining where the strongest exposure is. The larger gamma exposure generally has the greater influence on dealer hedging. If positive gamma above price is larger than any negative gamma , I view that level as a potential upside magnet. Dealer hedging can create buying pressure as price approaches that area, helping pull price toward the larger positive gamma level. If positive gamma below price is larger than any negative gamma, I view that area as support. Positive gamma below price does not pull price downward. Instead, dealer hedging can help absorb selling pressure if price declines into that level, increasing the likelihood that price stabilizes or bounces at that level. If negative gamma above price is larger than positive gamma above price, I expect that negative level to act as resistance. Dealer hedging may create additional selling pressure into rallies, making it more difficult for price to break higher. If negative gamma below price is larger than positive gamma , I treat that area as a downside magnet. As price moves lower, dealer hedging can amplify downside momentum, increasing the probability that price is pulled toward the larger negative gamma level. To compare gamma positioning between different stocks, I use Normalized GEX. Normalized GEX = Net Gamma Exposure ÷ Shares Outstanding, giving you a percentage measure. This measures dealer hedging strength at particular strikes, making comparisons between different strikes more meaningful. There is no universal industry standard for calculating Normalized GEX. Different platforms use different methods, including shares outstanding, free float, market capitalization, or proprietary formulas. This is simply the methodology used by Unusual Whales data. So, Gamma is not a buy or sell signal by itself. It identifies where dealer hedging may have the greatest influence, not where price is guaranteed to go. That's why I always combine GEX with options flow, Daily Net Gamma, liquidity, volume, and overall market structure before entering a trade. BUT, when Used correctly, gamma provides valuable context that can improve trade selection and help explain why price often reacts around certain levels. Checkout the chart in the previous post

$SPY How to actually USE GAMMA (GEX) TO TRADE How Gamma Above and Below Price Can Influence Price The yellow dashed line is the current stock price. Green lines represent positive gamma (+G), and red lines represent negative gamma (-G). The larger gamma level has the stronger influence, while the smaller gamma has less impact. 1. Large Positive Gamma Above Price = Magnet. When positive gamma above price is larger than the negative gamma above price, dealer hedging on that positive gamma can create buying pressure that helps pull price upward toward that level despite small negative gamma resistance above. This is why it can act like a magnet. 2. Positive Gamma Below Price = Support. When positive gamma below price is larger than any negative gamma below price, dealer hedging can help absorb selling pressure, reinforcing support if price falls (positive GEX below price does NOT pull price lower), it only reinforces support. IF price approaches low levels that positive gex level may find support and bounce hold price from falling lower . 3. Negative Gamma Above Price = Resistance. When negative gamma above price is larger than the positive gamma above price, dealer hedging can create selling pressure into rallies at that negative level. This can cap upside and cause that level to act as resistance. 4. Negative Gamma Below Price = Magnet below. When negative gamma below price is larger than the positive gamma below price, dealer hedging can amplify downside movement and pull price lower toward that negative gamma. As price declines, it may be pulled toward that larger negative gamma level, making it act like a downside magnet. Note: Remember, gamma does not guarantee price movement. It highlights where dealer hedging may have the greatest influence. I use it alongside options flow, and other market data to build a higher-probability trading thesis.
