Clouds on Mars are not as pronounced as those on Earth. They are composed primarily of carbon dioxide and water, and form in the upper atmosphere at temperatures below -123°C. They are most often observed in the equatorial and polar regions. In some cases, Martian clouds can appear as thin white streaks or fluffy masses.

What happens when two neutron stars collide? Neutron stars are the super-dense remnants of supernova explosions, made almost entirely of neutrons. They have a mass between 1.4 and 2 times that of the Sun, but are compressed to a size of about 20 kilometers in diameter. When two such stars collide, they merge, causing an explosion. This powerful explosion is called a kilonova. This merger releases a huge amount of energy, as well as heavy elements such as gold and platinum. These collisions are responsible for the formation of much of the gold in the universe, including the gold we use on Earth. The light produced by this event is often so bright that it can be seen over vast distances.

a supernova remnant is more than just beautiful—it tells a cosmic detective story. Astronomers uncovered that it resulted from the collision of two white dwarf stars! (Credit: NASA, ESA, CXC, SAO, the Hubble Heritage Team (STScI/AURA), J. Hughes)
