Every time I talk about jawbone aging in here, someone is inevitably gonna pop in with “that isn’t accurate,” revealing that they don’t know the method or it’s limitations. For more curious and open-minded hunters, jawbone aging is a simple series of questions. Here they are:

Recently personal circumstances have shifted in ways that make the year ahead increasingly uncertain. After careful reflection, I’ve concluded that my most immediate calling is to my family. Because of that, I will be suspending my campaign for Lieutenant Governor. This decision was not made lightly. I am profoundly grateful to everyone who stepped forward — not simply in support of a candidate, but in service to your neighbors and communities. What inspired me most throughout this campaign was people's commitment to making each other's lives a little easier and to building a politics rooted in shared responsibility toward one another. There is a sacredness in that connection to our neighbors, and I hope we all continue to honor it, as it is undoubtedly the antidote to these troubling times. I continue to believe deeply in leadership grounded in compassion, mutual respect, and a recognition of our shared humanity. I will keep living out those values and supporting candidates and causes centered in them — just not as a candidate this year. Over the next several weeks, our team will formally wind down campaign operations. Thank you for your trust, your encouragement, and your belief in what we set out to do together. I’m deeply honored to have had your support.

My mother, a UGA grad from 1965, hollered so loud for her Dawgs tonight that her Apple Watch alerted everyone she fell down. #GoDawgs

According to Erk Russell, Clemson was known as “Clem” at the time of its founding. They added “son” later. “S” for chivalry “O” for honor “N” for knowledge Go Dawgs!

Step 1 in the fight against CWD is slow the spread. Step 2, when it does spread, is catch it early. Step 3 is hold prevalence low with management. The more we understand this fight, the more we’ll see through alarming or gloomy headlines that shouldn’t be. deerassociation.com/missouri-shows…

North Carolina is in an early-stage, low-prevalence fight. That’s manageable, but @NCWildlife needs to do targeted removal in the core areas soon if they want to keep it manageable, like Missouri and Illinois. If it’s just monitoring, all you do is watch as prevalence climbs.

Deer hunters need to learn to see beyond headlines to the real CWD situation. For example, a recent headline said: “North Carolina finds 13 new CWD Cases.” That’s bad, right? No, it’s misleading. The news in NC, at least in the context of a fight against CWD, is good...1/6

So much discussion of the turkey problem. What can we do to get turkey numbers growing again? The easiest is a “stop doing.” STOP spreading corn on the landscape. You’re feeding nest predators and also possibly serving up aflatoxins that are particularly deadly on birds.
