CKWRI made history as we celebrated the groundbreaking of the CKWRI Ocelot Conservation Facility. The nearly 30,000 sq ft research facility will be located at the Tio and Janell Wildlife Park on the TAMUK campus and is anticipated to be completed at the end of 2025.

The Zoo's female ocelot, Leelou, participated in an artificial insemination procedure that will hopefully result in offspring in the near future. Ocelots are endangered in the U.S. -- there are less than 100 individuals in the wild today that can only be found in South Texas.

An ambitious recovery program for wild ocelots in Texas is being implemented with the assistance of the Cincinnati Zoo! Texas ocelots are highly endangered with just 60 to 80 wild cats surviving in fragmented habitats near the southern Mexican border.
