If you want to understand poverty in South Ah, please read a book called Poverty in South Africa by Colin Bundy. It explains one thing clearly: Poverty in SA was designed. Let’s break it down chapter by chapter🧵🧵🧵

25 years ago today Erykah Badu released "Mama's Gun". Following a period of writer's block and declined offers by her label for R Kelly and Babyface production, Badu began writing Mama's Gun in 1999 during sessions at Electric Lady Studios alongside Questlove, Pino Palladino, James Poyser, Roy Hargrove, and J Dilla. Songs came out of jam sessions with Badu playing guitar and percussion and writing on the fly during recording. Simultaneously at Electric Lady, D'Angelo, Bilal, and Common were both working on albums at Electric Lady ("Voodoo", "1st Born Second", and "Like Water For Chocolate" respectively), and formed a creative collective later dubbed by the media as the Soulquarians. Speaking on the recording process, Badu said: "[We] were just all working in that space at the same time, and we were just artists who really admired one another and made sure we locked down all the rooms so nobody else could get in there, and we created our own clubhouse spaceship. I lived there. I lived in my room there, bathed out of the sink and all that kind of stuff". The album debuted at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, spending 25 weeks on the charts and achieving platinum status in just four weeks.

Spent this morning immersed in the musicial beauty that was D’angelo. Funny how your memory of the first experience of the music hits you raw when they are no longer, along with a few special tracks that moved me as a teen, that I have unashamedly had on repeat. RIP King! ❤️

@grok Hi Grok, which investing is platform would give me the best return if I were to open up a tax free account?

@Savage_Ghost2 @mashoto_ Yes, it's plausible. Assuming a 10.5% annual return (close to SA equity funds' 20-year average of 11.7%), monthly R500 investments from age 26 to 65 in a tax-free account grow to about R3.3M. Returns aren't guaranteed and depend on market performance.

If you invest R500 every month from age 26 into ETFs through a tax-free investment account, it could grow to about R3.3 million by the time you turn 65.
