@Syla_Fox @TiltAtGiants Oh I agree, but it seems to be weighted towards trad. We don’t get this many stories that some big name indie got cancelled. It is usually over book deals, etc
English

@Linfootwrites @TiltAtGiants I’m afraid nobody is safe from this mob mentality behavior. 😞
English

@TiltAtGiants @Syla_Fox This is why self pub is the way. Build your audience and leave trad alone
English

@KeithDavendonis Dang it, you’re right. I gotta add that to the list
English

@Linfootwrites I think you are missing a crucial one, something on the edge of Fantasy and Fantasy.
English

@Linfootwrites The most sci-fi and fantasy I've read was decades ago. I just abstract from life experiences now to tell whatever story I'm telling, tbh

Witch hunts.
What is interesting that those of us who are creative won't say about this, is that nobody could tell if it was ai or not, or at least not definitively.
The audience, if they are not told something is AI, basically just cares if they enjoyed it.
Sure, if they absolutely love it they may become true fabatics and then want to know who the author is etc, but that just isn't how most people are.
Many will also delude themselves if they do like something.
For example, Sabrina Carpenter. Her songs are written by committee, this is well known.
Yet, a lot of the audiebce tries to piece together some real life narrative of what inspired her or what must be going on in her interior life etc.
Point is, creative people want to believe what they create is so much more and special to the audience than what it usually is, and we have yo acknowledge that most people, even our readers, likely will never care like we do.
Which is ok. How many people actually watch all yhe movie credits? Does anyone ask for the name of the person who designed the tires of their car, thst literally keeps them on the road and prevents them from dying?
English

We are afraid and angry at the wrong things. Imagine if this happened to you. It could. It might. There’s literally no way to protect ourselves right now.
We have no way of defending our work from inaccurate ai detectors or from service providers/editors who use ai on our manuscripts without our knowledge.
It’s not the ai slop authors we should be worried about. It’s the people who lie to us and the ai detection that is so often wrong -those are our biggest threats. Oh, and each other. Because imagine this happening to you and the entire community turns on you without any proof, and you’re just done in a blink. We need to do better, fam.

‘Shy Girl’ author releases statement after her novel was pulled amid allegations that she used AI to write it: “This controversy has changed my life in many ways and my mental health is at an all time low and my name is ruined for something I didn't even personally do.”

@DavidAtkins75 Sounds like me. Always doing other work on the weekend
English

@Linfootwrites I wish. The weekend brings more work, catching up on chores, doing things you were too tired to do when you got home from work. But yeah, I’ll squeeze some of those things in before I have to go back. Hopefully.

@paul_jkrause So far it’s been Armada by Ernest Cline.
Was the first “video game becomes reality” I’ve ever read.

English

@HariSel57511397 Armada by Ernest Cline was absolutely incredible
English

What’s the best sci-fi novel you’ve read (has to be published within the past five years cause I’m tired of all the same boring answers).
Paul Krause@paul_jkrause
What is the best sci-fi novel you've read? There are many good ones. Great ones. Not just because he recently passed away, but Hyperion by Dan Simmons has to be up there for everyone who has read it...
English

@writing_show I wrote a short 17k novelette over a weekend. Was my first ever book really to just see the whole process and test out how to use Amazon.
It is not good 😂 but it’s done
English

@Linfootwrites I get so bummed when it happens.
Now it's a habit, and that helps. Same time each day.
English

I have missed my daily post. Algo gods please forgive me. I swear I love this app. I will spend more time on it. I swear I don’t have a life. I swear all that is digital and holy that your super awesome app, that works all the time, is way way more enjoyable than playing video games, going to work, reading LitRPG and doing regular writing and human things.
English

@KingAriPress I’ve done that before. I work nights so not a lot of energy in the day to post
English

@Linfootwrites Only because I am counting, day 79.
One year, I did daily photos, and I missed a date because I was in another time zone. Ended up having 2 on one day.
English

@KingAriPress Dang, you go go get em! I’ll try not to miss another
