An Unpopular opinion: Most blockchains today are not ready for the quantum era, and upgrading them might be much harder than people think. Across the Web1, Web2, and Web3 space Almost everything in the digital world depends on encryption from crypto wallets, bank transactions, smart contracts, cloud infrastructure, IoT devices basically the entire Web3 and internet ecosystem. The cryptography protecting these systems is built on complex mathematical problems that classical computers would take millions of years to solve. That’s what keeps systems secure today. But quantum computers are being developed to solve certain mathematical problems far faster than classical machines. If that capability reaches the level researchers expect, it could challenge the cryptography protecting today’s digital infrastructure. Break the cryptography and the entire system becomes vulnerable: wallet signatures compromised, banking systems exposed, smart contracts manipulated. This scenario is often referred to as Q Day. The real problem is Blockchains can’t easily upgrade their cryptography. Encryption is embedded into every layer of the chain wallets, consensus, transactions, and smart contracts.
