Conflict Management in Action : Scott Broadway - Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Short-Term Program Conflict management skills go far beyond the classroom. For one Institute for Conflict Management participant, the program strengthened his work as a father, teacher, teammate, co-worker, and peacemaker. As he travels to Romania through the Fulbright Global Teachers Exchange Program, he shared that the training has equipped him to navigate conflict with confidence, perspective, and purpose. This is what we love to see: students and alumni using conflict as an opportunity for growth — wherever they are called to lead.

Master's degree students enrolled in the Conflict Management program are required to complete ICM 6073 Project in Conflict Management. This course is designed to immerse students in practical research and critical analysis, encouraging them to explore and write about a conflict management issue or challenge they feel passionately about. In the Spring semester of 2026, six dedicated students from Lipscomb University's Institute for Conflict Management completed the Project course. Each student focused on a unique topic and contributed valuable insights into conflict management. One student decided to focus on : Why do feuds last for generations? Nick Ingold's capstone analyzes the infamous Hatfield-McCoy feud through conflict management theory, revealing how honor, legitimacy, and community structure drive cycles of violence—with lessons for resolving conflicts today.

There is still time to register for the Institute for Conflict Management's Conflict in Religious Settings workshop. This workshop will focus on the challenges of leadership in the 21st century as leaders guide churches through transition, change and conflict. Leaders must manage the inevitable transitions and changes of church life, but effective leaders also initiate change as they seek to honor God’s mission in today’s world. Particular attention will be given to the importance of understanding the church from a systems perspective. The workshop will: (1) explore foundational principles at the heart of good conflict management (2) propose effective strategies for resolving congregational conflict; (3) propose a process for initiating purposeful change in a congregational setting. Celebrating our May 2026 Graduates! Kevin Starks "I am deeply grateful for the conflict management degree I earned from Lipscomb University. I firmly believe that if you are a human being navigating relationships, leadership, and life, a conflict management education is invaluable." The professors in the Institute for Conflict Management were exceptional—professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring. I hold each of them in the highest regard. I would be remiss if I did not also recognize the incredible peers with whom I shared the classroom. I learned a great deal from my classmates, and their perspectives and encouragement continually challenged me to grow and strive for excellence. I will be forever grateful to the university and the Institute for Conflict Management for developing me in ways I never imagined possible. We celebrate your achievements and the lasting impact you've made on our academic community. Congratulations to all May 2026 graduates!

Celebrating our May 2026 Graduates! Lily Corley As graduation approaches, I am full of mixed emotions, because I am relieved that I've made it to the finish line but sad that this wonderful experience is drawing to a close. My favorite thing about the Conflict Management program is the variety of people and experiences it encompasses. I've sat next to lawyers, HR professionals, educators, and grandparents who each pursued the degree for different reasons. They contributed a range of perspectives to our class discussions that helped us all apply concepts more deeply and broadly. Our professors are also some of the most interesting and kind people I've had the pleasure of meeting, and it was an honor to learn from them. They demonstrated expert group facilitation and leadership even as they taught us about it. I am especially grateful that the Readings and Project classes allowed us to focus on a topic of our choosing, because I was able to have agency in my own learning. I am excited to present my research on how creative arts can be incorporated into conflict management at the Student Scholars Symposium this month as a finale to my graduate school experience!

The Institute for Conflict Management offers Developing Resilience in Conflict, Disputes, and Daily Stressors as an online, synchronous summer course. The course equips students with practical strategies to manage conflict, develop self-awareness, and foster resilience in challenging situations. Students meet for six weeks on Tuesday nights, 7:00-8:30pm via Zoom, engaging in interactive sessions designed to apply new skills. Daily morning assignments help students focus, stay present, and build lasting stress management habits. Here is a quote from students who have completed the course: “I am grateful for the growth I experienced through this program. I expected simply a course, but instead I found daily encouragement and personal development. I am looking forward to seeing what is next. The program helped me gain perspective on myself and others." There's still time to join—contact us today!
