It’s time though. I’ve been less and less enamoured of this site for at least a year, and I thought about sticking it out until the madness went away but I don’t think it’s going to go away. I’m over on Bluesky on my usual handle. They say it’s nice there. Onwards and upwards.

I've never boxed as well as Mike Tyson, never had his athletic prowess, and I haven't aged as much (yet) either though that one is closer. And it made me think about him taking on a man in his 20s in the ring later this week. As someone who exercises far more now than I ever have before, I think I am at my lifetime strongest - so brute strength maybe one of the last sporting attributes to go. I also am fitter which means I've more stamina for long sustained exercise. Yet age has taken a way a lot that is irreplaceable too. Explosive power has gone, I can't sprint, my maximum effort is less. I'm more brittle, things break easier, and take longer to recover. I've lost the bounce and spring that I took for granted when younger. I walk fast but sometimes see young men overtake me, not because of faster cadence, but as their stride is longer because they're more flexible so simply stretch further. Experience has many advantages but physically even in your fifties, the body works differently. I know fitter stronger me now, would still probably lose at many things to me aged 25 who did little exercise and I certainly wouldn't risk fighting him. Then again, I'm not Mike Tyson.

@Steph_Athers It’s not that I dislike the song per se, but Don’t You (Forget About Ne) has plagued me for years. It follows me around the world. It showed up unbidden in a bar in Bangalore. It sticks to me like glue.
