@MJO316x You’re absolutely right. I remember back then thinking the NWA stuff was lame and I still think it is.

@citchmook @THEVinceRusso I’ve seen every episode of Nitro and Thunder at least twice. WCW’s writers in 1998 and first half of 1999 were worse than anything Russo did. You have no idea the stuff I had to sit through before Russo got there.

@THEVinceRusso I don't hate you, just question some of the decisions you made with WCW but at the end of the day, you also wrote many of the timeless memories we'll never forget.

Somebody tweeted out today: "Is there anybody that doesn't hate Vince Russo." Think about that. Think about what "everybody" hates me for. Sad and Pathetic.

Jim Cornette confirmed one of TNA's most infamous backstage stories on the season premiere of Dark Side of the Ring. Asked directly whether he ever made a terroristic threat toward Vince Russo, Cornette answered, "Well, it depends on what you call terroristic. The letter was, and I quote, if I could kill Vince Russo and get away with it, I would kill him." Russo, who was also interviewed, said: "You're gonna kill somebody over professional wrestling? Are you kidding me?" Cornette said the letter got him reported to the FBI, adding, "He knows that I legitimately despise him because he's a moron and he's in over his head." Cornette was let go from TNA in 2009, during the period covered by the episode, when Russo was given full creative control after Jeff Jarrett was sidelined. Russo: "Jim Cornette, to this day, does not understand this is a television show." Parts one and two of Jeff Jarrett's TNA are available now, with part three airing Tuesday at 9 PM ET on Vice TV. #JimCornette #VinceRusso #TNA #DarkSideOfTheRing #ProWrestling

@AWXWrestling @Azthesage @WrestlingNewsCo McMahon had final say over the head writer, same as any company owner. Did any other writer under McMahon ever write a show that increased in popularity as much as Raw from late 97 to late 99 when Russo was head writer?

@LittleCarmine3 @Azthesage @WrestlingNewsCo Vince McMahon. Russo was part of the creative team. Russo would pitch a bunch of ideas most of which were idiotic. McMahon take the few good ideas and polish them up to work on his tv. Russo worked best with someone filter his bs.

@LaborerCat @davemeltzerWON Who are these perfect bookers that people are holding Russo up to? Did any other booker ever write a show that increased in popularity as much as Raw from late 97 to late 99 when Russo was head writer? Even Russo era TNA increases. Tony K is the only one so far beating those

@davemeltzerWON Somewhere in the middle may have work but I don't think Russo was capable of that. EvenCornette said that Russo put on occasion come up with a few good ideas but Russo's ego would override his common sense and his ability to work with others.

It was an unsustainable business model. Decades later Jerry Jarrett admitted that while he promoted the idea and even claimed they would get 150,000 buys per week that he knew it was flawed. It was so elementary flawed. He told me basically that sometimes the love for your son causes you to make bad business decisions. Which also probably tells you why they didn't talk after Jeff chose Russo to head creative over him, when he was the one with the long-term track record, but his son thought his ideas were outdated and they needed modern ideas.

@davemeltzerWON They were screwed no .matter what. A weekly ppv in which it would take 90 days to get a buy rate.

@RealMissyHyatt @davemeltzerWON Russo was the head writer during RAW’s biggest increase in popularity ever from late 97 to late 99. And was the writer during TNA’s increase in popularity on Spike. Jerry Jarrett did something more successful than that?

@davemeltzerWON I like vince russo comparing his vision against 1970s jerry jarrett. Ill take the person that had a track record of making money over a one hit wonder with questionable success. You can figure out which one is which.

@FinalBossXL Hogans life was in shambles after the divorce with Linda. And WWE didn’t want him at the time. I admittedly probably followed way too much Hogan news back then, but even I knew about that stuff as a fan. “Greatest wrestling journalist ever” Dave Meltzer should have known

@BigBenArmy2 @XanderXCIV @WrestlingNewsCo They literally don’t know. The ppl with the biggest voices in wrestling media were ppl who competed against Russo for jobs/viewers. Cornette, Bischoff, Prichard. And Meltzer who wasnt in the biz but is just a purist and hated The Attitude Era’s most popular stuff.

@ASMRRay91 @DBW619 @WrestlingNewsCo That was in 2014 after years of the Bischoff era causing declining viewer numbers. And after years of Bischoff badmouthing Russo to Spike in private. Just look at whether the show’s popularity went up or down during each writer’s era. Popularity speaks for itself.

@XanderXCIV @WrestlingNewsCo Wrong. Late 98 was garbage. Early-mid 1999 WCW was some of the most boring TV ever, especially compared to WWF at the time. I watched it back then, rewatched it all later, and looked at the ratings charts.

@AJPWNerd TNA worked its way up from 0 viewers to 2 million viewers a week. Then Bischoff/Hogan happened.

For all the younger folks who either weren't around or just not watching, there was never a point when TNA wasn't laughed at. There were bright spots sure, but they were always mocked. It just somehow got a whole lot worse when Hogan and Bischoff came in.
