Muttaburrasaurus remains a mixture of knowns and unknowns, and it doesn’t neatly conform to what our brains “expect” a large ornithopod to look like (or what we might think is aesthetically sensible). I hope this thread helped make sense of it. (13/14)

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the new life appearance of Muttaburrasaurus, and a lot of bold takes about how accurate the paper’s reconstruction is, but not a lot of pointing to the fossil evidence. So here’s a little thread on what we know about it. (1/14)

@RizkiusMaulanae I always assumed it was ontogeny, and Bruton is the oldest male. The background individuals show more prominent scalation on the nose than Aladar but not as much as Kron or Bruton. Likewise correlates with the gradient in colour.

Friend shared a neat Disney Dinosaur theory: Kron and Bruton's nasal ridge are non-skeletal structure only developed by lead bulls, similiar to orangutan face disc on dominant males

@Mapusart23 Fundamentally, historical happenstance. Owen did not recognize their immediate relationship when naming Dinosauria based on two ornithischians and a theropod, so they were not included in the conception of "dinosaur" from thereon. They do form a natural group together.

GQX is super good and has a rare cinematic quality you don't often so in anime, so of course anime fans don't like it
