🚨 BREAKING: Charles Hoskinson: Being as Fast as Solana Is EASY!!

Decentralization means many must act — not none. Proud of the Sui stakers and validators who overwhelmingly stepped up to support the users and builders affected by the theft. This community takes care of its own.

This is one of the dumbest takes I’ve seen in a while. Gainzy said SUI is worthless because it’s “centralized.” Let’s break that down: After the Cetus hack, Sui validators froze $162M from the hacker. But they weren’t forced. Each validator chose to block the wallet using a config file. No one was told what to do. Now the community will vote what to do with the funds. Sui Foundation won’t vote. Only validators and holders through delegation. That’s not centralization. Ethereum reversed a hack. Solana paused the chain. Bitcoin had a bug that printed 184B BTC. Also, this guy says Sui only pays KOLs While he’s getting paid by PumpFun to stream. Every chain has paid creators or systems like Kaito to have more mindshare It’s called marketing

@SuiNetwork Many real people lost life savings in the Cetus attack. Some took out loans. Some are still holding hope. This vote is not just technical — it’s moral. Let’s show them the Sui community stands with victims. I vote YES to bring the stolen funds back.🙏

Cetus has requested a community driven vote to recover the funds frozen following last week’s hack. In response, the Sui Foundation has released code for an onchain community vote. Sui validators can cast votes, and Sui holders can also vote directly through stake delegation. Sui Foundation stake will not be counted. If the community vote is approved, the funds will be recovered from the attacker and held in a multisig trust account until they can be returned to accounts who had positions in Cetus. The community vote is part of Cetus’s larger recovery plan to ensure all account holders are made whole, which includes use of Cetus’s treasury and obtaining a loan from Sui Foundation. While the validators cast votes, you, the Sui community, are represented by where your holdings are staked. You may change your stake delegation to a validator who voted in alignment with your preference. Validator votes will be displayed in public dashboards, which will be shared when the vote begins today at 1:00pm PT. See the blog post below for details, including code and participation information.

🚨 Dear Sui community, We are working diligently together with Inca Digital, security and analytics providers, and law enforcement officials across the world to recover the $60M worth of stolen funds. In parallel, we are asking the Sui community to support a protocol upgrade to recover the $162M of frozen funds and return them to their rightful owners. No one can make this decision unilaterally. We propose an on-chain vote involving the network’s major participants, including validators and SUI stakers, to decide on whether this upgrade is in the best interest of the Sui community. We want to recover and return the stolen funds, but we will respect whatever the community decides. Thank you for your patience. We will work closely with Sui validators and the Sui Foundation on the details of implementing our proposed vote. 🌊

@SuiNetwork Decentralization does not mean anarchy. I vote in favor of approval and the restoration of a theft. It is not fair for these funds to remain frozen or at the disposal of a criminal while there are innocent victims who have been harmed.

Yes, Solana is centralized and yes @toly is aware of it, which is why he tries to muddy the waters on decentralization every chance he gets and no Toly doesn't care b/c the lab/foundation model allows him to divorce himself from any real accountability. If you hold $SOL I hope you understand this.
toly 🇺🇸@toly

Decentralization test is objective, not a bunch of subjective hand wavy bs: 1) can a minority unilaterally block the majority from making changes or functioning then it’s not decentralized 2) can the majority block the minority from exiting or forking its own chain (for example: withhold data, emergency upgrading the bridge contract) then it’s not decentralized It’s not that hard people.

@SuiInsiders The problem is not the hacking, the problem is the blacklist mechanism. If it happens once, there will be countless times. Believe me! This goes against decentralization and anti-censorship mechanism. Sorry! I am disappointed!

Completely agree here. It’s no secret that @SuiNetwork has only around 100 validators, it’s not fully decentralized yet. So Sui basically had two options yesterday, 1. Do nothing and let the hacker steal $230M. Sure, that might've saved them from today’s criticism about not being truly decentralized, even though it’s publicly obvious as they only have 100 validators. 2. Step in, take action, and protect their main LP provider and, honestly, all the effort they’ve put into building the ecosystem. Any serious protocol would’ve done what Mysten did yesterday. Saving $230M is just common sense, way better than pretending to be decentralized just to avoid some backlash.

This was 100% the right move. If you don't take advantage of the benefits of centralization while you can, you're just fighting with your hands behind your back. If Coinbase and the rest of Ethereum L2s can unilaterally control all bridge funds, if Hyperliquid can unilaterally shut down a market at an any price, and if Solana DeFi can unilaterally upgrade their programs to arbitrary code, then Sui should be allowed to fight back against a literal villain. In the long term, censorship resistance and immutability will win, but in the short term, as we've seen over the past year, the entire meta is centralization.
f(gautham)💤@gauthamzzz

A hacker stole $223M from Sui yesterday. Then something unprecedented happened. Sui validators literally banned him from the network and froze his funds mid-escape. This changes everything we thought we knew about "decentralized" blockchains. Here's the wild story 🧵

@armaniferrante In the long term with enough pressure those validators can be forced to run the same deny list and censorship prevails.
