I call that intellectual dishonesty. He clearly knows that we are more inclined to infer consciousness in Claude than in AlphaFold because of language and thought Claude expresses. In all the talks by Anil Seth that I’ve watched, he has not put forward a single relevant argument showing that AI cannot be conscious. He adopts an authoritative tone, but when you look closely at details, none of it really holds up. I wasted a lot of time watching him.
