Today is the day! Marble Arch to 10 Downing Street Reflecting on the tragic events that unfolded seven years ago at the Manchester Evening Arena bombing, we are reminded of the 22 lives that were senselessly taken and the countless families left devastated by the loss of their loved ones. As we look back on this sad anniversary, we must acknowledge the ongoing efforts to ensure such a tragedy never occurs again. One individual who has been tirelessly advocating for enhanced public safety measures is Figen Murray OBE, who tragically lost her son in the Manchester attack. Fueled by her tragedy, Figen aims to push for a law to bolster public protection measures. Her dedication and unwavering commitment to making a positive change stand as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of unimaginable loss. Figen Murray's symbolic 200-mile walk to 10 Downing Street is a poignant reminder of the lengths she is willing to go to fight for a cause she believes in. Her journey is not just physical but symbolic, representing the tireless pursuit of justice and the quest for a safer society for all. In light of Figen Murray's advocacy efforts, there have been calls for government officials, including Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to prioritise legislation enhancing public safety measures. Prime Minister Sunak must follow through on his promise to support such vital legislation as a leader entrusted with the nation's well-being. The delay in addressing and supporting Figen Murray's proposed law raises questions about the government's commitment to public safety and fulfilling its duty to protect its citizens. It is incumbent upon Prime Minister Sunak and other policymakers to prioritise the safety and security of the public above all else. As we pause to remember the lives lost in the Manchester Arena bombing and honour the resilience of survivors and advocates like Figen Murray, let us also reflect on the importance of swift and decisive action in enacting measures that will prevent such senseless tragedies in the future. The victims' memory and the advocates' dedication serve as a constant reminder that we must strive for a society where safety, compassion, and resilience prevail. 🐝 Thank you for being part of the journey #martynslaw #peacebears #bemoremartyn

DAY 6 - Manchester to London At the core of Figen Murray OBE’s campaign is the call for Martyn's Law, a proposed legislation designed to elevate security standards in public venues to prevent future acts of terrorism. Backed by significant security personnel nationwide, exceeding 450,000 supporters, the campaign accentuates the pressing need for enhanced measures to safeguard the public. Martyn's Law advocates for implementing rigorous security protocols such as mandatory bag checks, detection technologies, and comprehensive staff training in preventative risk management procedures. These measures aim to create secure environments for all individuals attending public events or venues, minimising the risks of potential threats. Beyond physical security enhancements, the success of Martyn's Law hinges on fostering improved coordination and information sharing between law enforcement agencies and security personnel. By implementing technologies and providing continuous training and education resources, we can better identify and address terrorism risks. Supporting Martyn's Law is not just a symbolic gesture; it is a critical step towards affirming the government's commitment to the safety and protection of the public.
