@WilsonCattle I see, thanks. Well I'm interested in parallels between the US and other nations regarding how policy shields agriculture from market pressures, and the unintended consequences thereof. Also whether this is a 'developed world' phenomenon or not.

Are commodity crop markets the "commons" and overproduction the "tragedy of the commons"? It's not exactly the same, but very similar with individual incentives overriding collective incentives.

I'm no economist but I think that overproduction is more a matter of what's good for an individual producer vs what's good for all producers. It would be better if all commodity producers limited their yield to increase the price for everyone, but for an individual, the incentive is to maximize their yield. It's a "tragedy of the commons" problem with the commons being crop commodity markets.

@LizoMasters @WilsonCattle @agronomistag Search engines will find plenty of literature on Eurozone protection - they are world champions of both overt and covert subsidies, tariffs etc….
They are moving to non-trade tariffs over things like carbon, their measure of “sustainability” etc
Likewise for US bioethanol….

ggplot running the damn game

It took me SEVEN years to figure out that you can save a ggplot as a vectorized .svg file ggsave("file.svg"). The svg file can be opened on powerpoint and it will be completely vectorized, even text are still recognized as text boxes! No more recreating plots on illustrator!!!!!

This is my annual reminder that read_csv() is vectorized so you don't need to use map() or lapply() to read in a list of csv files. Simply use list.files() to create a list of paths to your csv and from there pass it to readr's read_csv(). #rstats
