A decade ago, in a small corner of Nigeria, the Lord’s work began quietly—but powerfully—through a handful of new believers. Today, that tiny light has grown, and I’m here to share the miracles and faith behind it.
Ten years ago, when I joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we were just a small group of new believers gathering on the streets of Makurdi. Shortly after the Gospel reached Otukpo, missionaries were sent to establish the Church in Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria.
At first, we were the talk of the town—for all the wrong reasons. People ridiculed us, called us names, and even labeled us a cult because of our black and whitSunday attire. Some in my own circle jokingly called me the “Mormon Missionary.” It hurt at first, but over time, I grew stronger, and the noise faded into the background.
Ironically, many of those same critics later joined the Church, inspired by the same “Mormon Missionary” they once mocked. Through this experience, I learned: it is never easy being a pioneer member in a place where the Church is new—but it is always worth it.
The foundation that kept us united was our deep love for the Gospel and for each other. Even through difficult times—when our unit leader was arrested or when missionaries were chased away while sharing the Gospel—our love and testimony never wavered.
That same spirit is why I’m here on X: to fulfill my mission of sharing the light of the Gospel and the blessings it has brought to my people. It’s also to create opportunities to assist struggling members in this growing part of Zion. I’m truly grateful for your support so far.
The baptisms I do post or sharing often is the result of years of hard work, consistent faith, and the powerful influence of the Gospel in Makurdi and Gboko—just a small piece of the Lord’s vineyard.
I’m here to tell the stories of my people—our challenges, triumphs, and testimonies. But if you don’t follow, how will you hear them?
Welcome to my space here on X. I’m Okpanachi Elvis Sunday, and it’s good to have you here. If you’ve read this far, I know you care about our story. Please visit my profile, click the follow button, and stay tuned for more inspiring accounts of the Church’s growth in Nigeria.
