Hon. Minister Mr Shisir Khanal addressed a seminar organised by the Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA) @IFA_Nepal today on "Student Migration: Policy, Aspiration, and Global Mobility." Highlighting the roles of Nepali students abroad, the Hon. Minister emphasised the pursuit of knowledge has always been a journey beyond borders to expand perspectives and expertise. He underscored the need for a diaspora knowledge network to map the specialised skills of Nepali students and link their global insights to national development priorities. On the occasion, the Hon. Minister also highlighted Nepal's unique strengths in areas such as Climate Science, IT and Ancient Wisdom to build world-class institutions that match the ambitions of our youth. "We are not losing a generation; we are distributing one," he said, stressing the need to transform migration into a circular flow of knowledge that ensures every journey culminates in a contribution to the nation. The programme was attended by government officials, migration experts, researchers, and young diplomats of MoFA.

At the invitation of Foreign Secretary Mr Amrit Bahadur Rai, Deputy Foreign Minister (Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Portugal) H. E. Dr Ana Isabel Xavier will be on an official visit to Nepal from 29 April to 1 May 2026. During her visit, she will hold a bilateral meeting with Foreign Secretary Mr Rai and pay a courtesy call on Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Mr Shisir Khanal @shisir on 30 April 2026. During these meetings, the two sides will review the status of bilateral relations, as well as explore new avenues of cooperation on areas of mutual interests of the two countries. Dr. Ana Isabel Xavier will be accompanied by Non-resident Ambassador of Portugal to Nepal H.E. Mr João Ribeiro de Almeida and other officials.

The Ministry organised a MoFA–Media Meet and Interaction Programme today. In his welcome remarks, Foreign Secretary Mr Amrit Bahadur Rai underlined the value of open exchange of views in helping to communicate and advance the Government’s priorities. Spokesperson Mr Lok Bahadur Chhetri made a presentation, sharing updates on foreign affairs, the Ministry’s broad priorities, including economic and public diplomacy, and a few ongoing matters, including the situation of Nepali nationals in West Asia. Hon. Foreign Minister Mr Shisir Khanal highlighted the media’s important role in conveying Nepal’s foreign policy priorities and contributing to a balanced and positive international image of the country. Chief Editors, Editors, senior writers and analysts were present. The programme concluded with an interactive and constructive exchange of views.

The Ministry organised the third and final round of its virtual interaction series with Nepali diplomatic missions, this time with those based in Europe and the Americas, which concluded today. Delivering his opening remarks, Foreign Secretary Mr Amrit Bahadur Rai highlighted the importance of technology-based service delivery and effective economic diplomacy in advancing the Government’s two key priorities: good governance and economic growth. During the programme, Ambassadors, Permanent Representatives, Consuls General and Chargés d’Affaires briefed on major engagements, opportunities for enhanced collaboration and cooperation, as well as the status of service delivery and participation in various international forums. Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Mr Shisir Khanal, emphasised the Government’s core priorities of ensuring good governance through improved service delivery and promoting economic prosperity through economic diplomacy. He instructed the missions to align their efforts accordingly and to further enhance service delivery through innovation and digitalisation. The programme was conducted by Joint Secretary Mr Ganesh Prasad Dhakal, Head of the Europe Division at the Ministry.

The Ministry organised a virtual interaction programme today with Nepali diplomatic missions based in West Asia and Africa. During the programme, Ambassadors, Consuls General and Chargés d’Affaires briefed on the prevailing situation in their respective countries, the safety and security of Nepali nationals, the status of service delivery, innovative practices adopted and the priorities of the missions. In his opening remarks, Foreign Secretary Mr Amrit Bahadur Rai underscored the importance of effective service delivery, advancing economic diplomacy in the changed context and leveraging technology to enhance efficiency. In his closing remarks, Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Mr Shisir Khanal highlighted the Government’s core priorities, including good governance and economic prosperity through strengthened economic diplomacy. He instructed the missions to align their efforts accordingly and to further enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of public service delivery through innovation and digitalisation. Hon. Foreign Minister Mr Shisir Khanal addressed the 9th Indian Ocean Conference in Port Louis under the theme “Collective Stewardship for Indian Ocean Governance.” He highlighted Nepal’s deep and organic link between the Himalayas and the Indian Ocean, noting that ecological interdependence from melting glaciers to rising seas demands a shared global response. Reaffirming the rights of landlocked countries under UNCLOS, he called for inclusive, rules-based governance rooted in equity, international law and shared responsibility for our global commons. He also urged greater recognition of the mountain–ocean climate nexus, including through Nepal’s Sagarmatha Sambaad platform. “What melts in the mountains eventually rises in the seas,” he said. Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Shisir Khanal, currently in Port Louis, Mauritius for the 9th Indian Ocean Conference (10–12 April 2026), held a bilateral meeting with Dr S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India. Dr Jaishankar congratulated him on assuming office. The two leaders reviewed the longstanding, multifaceted Nepal–India relationship. Both sides held constructive and forward-looking discussions on matters of mutual interest, reaffirming their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

The @MofaNepal organised its regular Press Briefing today, highlighting some recent developments on various matters. During the Briefing, Spokesperson @LokbChhetri briefed on the developments in West Asia and safety and well-being of Nepali nationals in the region and on various other pertinent matters. Joint Secretary Mr Ram Kaji Khadka @ramkaji05 shared key decisions of the 5th Meeting of the Emergency Response Team chaired by the Foreign Secretary @amritrai555 and on the ongoing work of the High-Level Interministerial Task Force headed by the Foreign Minister.
