25.S1.2 Full Preview! Item Changes - Looking to increase the relative power budget of the Armor Pen stat on both Lord Doms and Mortal Reminder - At the same time, we're sharping the differences between Yun Tal and Collector, by making Yun Tal more about sustained damage and Collector more about burst damage - The intention is that if a champ opts into YunTal -> IE -> LDR build it would feel notably different against tanks than 3 item builds without LDR Feats of Strength - Yesterday, I forgot to mention that the First Blood is changing to be First to 3 kills! (Thanks to the folks who worked over the weekend to get this out) - We tried going first to 5, but that led to visualization and mindshare concerns with players tracking 2 Feats at once, etc. Atakhan - We're further nerfing Roses as we're trying to reduce as much invisible power, as well as nerf both Atakhan's forms slightly - For Voracious Atakhan he is showing up a lot in Pro Play and looking quite strong there, but not as much in normal play - We're looking to narrow the difference in appearance between the two, so having him show up more in normal play and a bit less in Pro Play - At the same time, we're looking to make him weaker; by increasing the tradeoff for using his buff reward - If the enemy is expending resources to force you to withdraw, we think they should be rewarded a bit more than currently for it (we still think this clearly nets out positive for the Atakhan team), so we're increasing the reward from 100 >>> 200g - We don't want to go so far that players feel like it's hurting them to use the buff though - Atakhan bot vs top rate is looking pretty good at ~55% bot and 45% top, so we're not looking to chance it at this time Minion Changes - It's still early to tell the effects of the minion changes and there are a lot of players in high levels of play trying to discover optimal wave stack patterns - It doesn't seem like there is much discernable difference in gold compared to the previous patch, at 5, 10, 15 min, it's the same and at 20 minutes players on average have ~3 less CS, which is not much Viktor - Adding a Viktor nerf into the patch as well - He's been sporting pretty strong performance for a while, despite the influx of new players on him - Looking to take a bit of damage out

@milianalove I saw somewhere that women are better at seeing things clearly and better at differentiating color or whatever and that men are better at seeing things that move quickly if that makes sense. Could be a correlation if that’s the case Maybe it’s like in chess and it’ll just grow.

Genuine question I've pondered my whole life: Is being male a biological advantage when it comes to anything competitive? I'm not talking about sports-- obviously men have a biological advantage. I'm talking about video games, STEM competitions, etc that are measured by an elo or score. I've noticed that the top end of every competitive activity I've ever participated in is heavily skewed male. Even when accounting for the fact that more men participate in these competitions than women, men are still disproportionately represented at the top skill levels. Is it because males have higher variance, therefore it's logical to see more males than females at the top? Or is it possibly because testosterone enables you to grind more? Or is it more of a cultural issue? Are there any studies on this?

@RiotPhroxzon Death’s dance bleed makes it so if you take damage from a champ then the bleed counts as “parrying” so your W automatically deals extra damage. I don’t think that’s intended

Ambessa's been out for a few days now. There was a lot of discussion pre-release, we feel like she's landed in a pretty good spot, but curious on all of your thoughts. Some initial observations: - She has a good smattering of effective items across Rav Hydra, Eclipse, Cyclosword. We think it's pretty important that she stays squishier on first item and builds like a fighter - Power level looks good; as players learn her, she's gaining a lot more performance in the higher ranks - She has a bunch of matchups and game states where she feels quite vulnerable, but others where she excels which feels appropriate - We still have a bit of polish to do, especially around some of the input buffering (in and around her ultimate) and some bugs Would love to hear about things you're enjoying, things you think could use improvement. Have been super hyped to see all the engagement around her

@RiotPhroxzon Her W parry mechanic doesn’t make sense to me. I think it should deal more damage and the shield gets larger if you successfully parry. If you don’t then less damage and shield. It’s way too easy to just get a massive shield with the 175% bonus ad scaling

Patch Preview 14.21! Bounties - Some significant bounty changes coming this patch that have been cooking for a while; some of the reasoning here is to make bounties feel more intuitive to players across both champion and objective bounties - Would recommend checking out Phreak's patch preview for the nitty gritty details - The high level is: * Bounties will be more tightly correlated with gold in and gold out * When players are negative in bounties, getting gold will bring them back to 0 progressively, rather than a 0-7 player getting 2 kills and then having a 150g bounty, 2 kills may or may not be enough to get someone back to being worth 300g * Killing players repeatedly will both acquire less bounty, but also give less gold * Objective bounties will be a bit more based on Gold rather than XP to better match player sensibilities, even if it's less accurate (more aligned with what players associate with leads, especially in Pro Play) Systems Changes - Lethal Tempo is a tad weaker than alternatives for the melee carries, so we're giving it a bump after Grasp was nerfed out for them - This is also to keep the power level roughly the same for them with the BORK nerf - We acknowledge the concerns around buffing Yone/Yasuo last patch while they're dominant at worlds; the reasoning for that was because 14.19 changes were a nerf to them and we were restoring a bit of power while skewing them a little towards crit as their items were too skewed towards non-crit - AP is still a little too strong and crowding out Lucidity in particular; bringing down Sorcs as a result, because we think Lucidity is in a reasonable spot and don't want to buff it Champions - Will talk more about champions tomorrow - A bunch of the changes this patch are for champions that we had to cut last patch

Patch 14.20 Preview! Game Monitoring: - This patch we've seen a pretty good reduction in the amount of snowballing while keeping game times ~constant. - Additionally, we're noticing that champions are dying on average 3-5% slower than on the previous patch, which is helping skill expression shine a bit more - We're still waiting a little longer to see which roles have come out on top power wise, but AP has been floating up closer to the top Systems: - Our general strategy here as with previously is to get systems into the right spot first and then follow up with champions changes - Lethal Tempo seems to have found a pretty decent spot overall, not overpowering other options in a large way, some champs are flexing around on Grasp, PTA, Fleet, etc. Still some optimization to do here - AP has initially proven out to be quite strong with Stormsurge and Pen builds rising to the top again. We're not looking to give it a large nerf like last time, but a small tap down seems warranted. We're also going to continue to investigate some of the proc damage values with some being a little on the high end - Additionally, Liandrys has been pretty strong for Junglers, but seems to be in a reasonable spot for other roles. Part of this is because combat is a bit slower and so the burn is relatively more powerful both against camps and champions - Finally, ADC first item space needs work. Despite being a more powerful option in many cases, IE first has proven to be pretty unexciting and not really an item that players are excited to buy. - We're making some changes to the first item space to make Yun Tal, Shiv and Collector more appropriate relative to each other. We know that the space needs a lot more work to make Crit vs Non-Crit builds more satisfying and clear reasons to be picked - Grasp has landed in an interesting spot; with it showing up on a lot more champs than Tanks (especially some of the squishier fighters). - While this is sometimes OK, it's meant to be more of a niche option and pretty expectation breaking to see some of the light fighters or ADC's with really high HP values - We're doing some specific champ follow up on some of the fighter oriented Eclipse users, or Crit users (Yone, Yasuo) that don't have good alternatives. As mentioned earlier, we're looking to mostly tune around these item values for now More on champs tmrw

@Spideraxe30 Why are they taking the easy way out by buffing her jg. Why not keep her in mid as was intended and like how we want her to be. I think they could’ve given back the passive damage we lost 😔

14.5! We're pulling runaans and Galio from the patch due to some unforseen issues Items - Passes this patch to bring some items up to viability (sunfire, heartsteel, dream maker, celestial) - we're still undecided on navori - we're also throwing in some minor changes to Lich bane, rocketbelt and Stormsurge to balance these sub ecosystems - Sleigh was over buffed and FH is a little too cheap for how strong it is right now Jarvan - he's struggled to keep up after Shojin changes. Rhaast - he's both struggling and buying glass cannon builds - looking to bring him back onto some less squishy builds Kog, Sivir - both of these Champs have been sad for a while. - kog didn't benefit from terminus buffs much as he builds it later TF - we didn't go hard enough last patch trying to strike the fine line between not over nerfing AP TF who is less powerful - trying to find the set of changes that thread the needle between the 3 roles he's being played in right now at various skill brackets - intention is to keep AD TF good, but not overly so Vayne, Senna - senna is performing too well in both pro and solo q (especially the adc role) - vayne is performing well in both top and adc and has been on the strong side for a while (but not strong enough to be explicitly nerfed), so we're nerfing her for staleness Reksai - following up on her weak release from this patch, continuing to fix a bunch of her bugs Veigar, vex - these v mages have both been on the weak side for a while - for veigar, everfrost loss has been pretty sad so we're giving him some love - vex has been sad after the durability increases recently as she's struggling to reset (14.2 especially), so bringing her up a bit Wukong - our changes recently didn't quite hit the mark, so we're taking a second look at his top without buffing jungle too much Brand, Evelynn, Nidalee - brand and Evelynn have both been strong and stale for a while (Evelynn more so). - for one of the sharpest mastery curve champions in the game, Evelynn should probably live a little lower - nidalee was a bit over buffed in our recent changes Zac - top has been picking up popularity, is strong in lower mmrs and with the buffs to sunfire is likely to go over the top - tapping down his top while trying to go neutral on jungle Belveth - another higher than expected mastery champion sitting over average winrate means she's probably a bit stronger than she should be. Tapping her down slightly with both a power impacting bugfix and a nerf Seraphine - trying to correct how powerful her bot is which has been exacerbated with the 14.2 changes Smolder - smolder has been really popular and about balanced. We're not looking to reshape him significantly, but reduce how effective his tankier builds are, make his e matter more and increasing the sweet spot and heal on the ultimate so they matter Yorick - he gained a bit too much from our previous changes, looking to bring him down a bit while reducing how effective aoe vs single target damage is against maiden Maokai - our nerfs last patch didn't land, because solstice also overshot a bit - bringing sleigh down and nerfing Mao a bit each (both are quite over) ARAM - buffs to nasus, Mundo, camille, naafiri - nerfs to renekton illaoi, Zac (nerfed a little less, due to SR nerf), lulu, karma
