A statement from London Fire Commissioner, Jonathan Smith, on the first anniversary of the tragic fire in Bicester where three people, including London Firefighter Martyn Sadler, sadly died.

Firefighters are currently working with the @metpoliceuk to remove a small WW2 ordinance from Purland Road in #Thamesmead. Residents and business owners in the area are advised to keep their windows and doors shut as a precaution while it is removed.london-fire.pulse.ly/1linqbj5em

We marked the occasion at the National Firefighters Memorial with firefighters, colleagues, the Retired Members Association, Fire Brigade's Union, Firefighters Memorial Trust, clergy and the public. Staff across the Brigade also joined a minute's silence to pay their respects.

This Firefighters Memorial Day, we remember all of those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. We remember them, and we thank them for their service.
