Hilda Esperanza Lopez-Hernandez fled the scene of a deadly accident while driving a red Ford Mustang in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., in 2020. Then, she called her boyfriend to switch vehicles with her. The fatal hit-and-run incident should never have happened. She had no license, and she wasn’t supposed to be in this country. Lopez-Hernandez was convicted in Okaloosa County of hit-and-run, operating a motor vehicle without a license and hiding evidence Jan. 9, 2023. She was handed a four-year sentence. ICE Miami arrested her after she was released from jail and deported her April 12, 2026.
