Scene in Dallas, 1976. Classic, eh? Which would you rather have? Taken by the great Lee Friedlander.

Hell yeah! This way, when I’m a shriveled up old prune who can’t remember the difference between a wall cloud and a whitewall tire, I’ll still be destroying whatever high score exists on fast-speed Pac-Man. 😉

@TracesofTexas Once in Falfurrias 40 years ago he acquired two of those same OK used cars still in their original wooden shipping crates. The sides were printed with some really creative warnings about their fragility, including "NO FOOLING" and "BREAK THIS AND YOU'LL PAY!!!" So wish I had pics

@TracesofTexas I'm loving all the neon in the picture. My dad was with corporate Chevy for 30+ years, but as a side gig would go into old GM dealerships and pick through the NOS parts for classic car restorations. Occasionally he'd collect the neon and other marketing effects.

Salesmen (I'm guessing) dressed to the nines at Knapp Cheverolet in Houston. As a lover of this period of men's clothing ---- particularly the ties ----- I love this photo! On the one hand I think "man, I'd be styling as a photographer if I dressed like that." Then on the other hand I think, "but Lordy, you would so hot and so uncomfortable! Maybe T-shirts are better." But that tie on the man on the right? Let's just say I have tie envy.

Whoever said that Amarillo is a one-horse town? World War II brought gasoline and rubber rationing to Texas. That might have impacted commerce in some other places, but Amarilloans just shrugged their shoulders, got on their horses, went to town, and tied them up to parking meters. This was actually taken on Route 66 in Amarillo. I'm guessing that Bobby Troup, who wrote the famous "Get Your Kicks on Route 66" probably never pondered this scenario. 😉
