Coming forward is never easy, and it takes real courage to share these experiences, especially after so many years. I’m keeping Dolores Huerta, Ana Murguía, and Debra Rojas in my thoughts. Dolores has long shown what courage looks like through a lifetime of fighting for others, and that same courage is evident today. Honoring that legacy means listening to survivors, supporting them, and ensuring accountability where harm has occurred. These reports are deeply troubling, and we take them seriously. While the information is still emerging, we will engage our city’s leadership and community in a thoughtful process to consider how we recognize the farmworker movement in our public spaces, holidays, and civic life—including reviewing the naming of public facilities—in a way that is responsive to this moment and grounded in our values.

Today, we welcomed @voyagertech_ to the Space Beach family! 🚀 Voyager's seven-acre site includes more than 140,000 sq. ft. of research, development and advanced manufacturing space, bringing hundreds of high-quality jobs to our city. Long Beach continues to lead the way in aerospace innovation, and having another world-class team choose our city to grow is a win for our local economy and our community. I’m also proud to share that Voyager Space will be partnering with LBUSD’s Sato Academy to bring the NASA High Schools United with NASA to Create Hardware (HUNCH) Program to our students. This partnership will open the door for Long Beach students to gain hands-on experience build skills, explore careers in aerospace, and helping shape the future of innovation right here in our city. Voyager’s new facility in Long Beach, California will significantly expand our ability to capture the significant demand signal across of civil, national security and commercial space missions, and we’re actively collaborating with leading Space Beach companies, including @anduriltech and @The_TrueAnomaly. Last month, the Long Beach City Council was one of the first major U.S. cities to formally call for the removal of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to hold the federal administration accountable for the chaos and harm they have inflicted on diverse immigrant communities like ours. We must always reject unjust policies and decisions that create fear in our neighborhoods. Today’s news reflects a growing groundswell of concern from mayors, cities, and community leaders across the country who have been calling for justice and accountability. But this moment does not end the work. Cities like Long Beach must continue speaking out, standing with our residents, and pushing for policies that protect the dignity and safety of everyone who calls our community home.

The fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by federal agents in Minneapolis is inexcusable. This incident reflects the dangerous consequences of unchecked federal overreach in our communities. I stand in solidarity with the people of Minneapolis and Mayor Jacob Frey as they call for answers, transparency, and accountability. Public safety is built through trust, dignity, and respect - not militarized enforcement that puts lives at risk. Every life is sacred, and everyone deserves to feel safe. And today, Thursday: Long Beach State of the Port address — welcoming new Port CEO Noel Hacegaba. 2026 - LB is off to a strong start.

I join mayors from across America in condemning the killing of Renee Nicole Good during an ICE operation in Minneapolis. These atrocities must not be normalized, and her death should never be dismissed as collateral damage. In Long Beach, we’ve seen how these federal enforcement tactics escalate fear and put lives at risk. They do not make our cities safer. Public safety is built on accountability, transparency, and respect for human dignity—not paramilitary-style enforcement in our neighborhoods. America’s cities deserve better.

This week, the City of Long Beach filed an amicus brief in a federal case to stand up for public safety and civil rights—supporting a California law that requires federal enforcement agents to clearly identify themselves during any operations in the state. By joining this brief, Long Beach is helping shine a light on the consequences of these reckless federal enforcement actions that have no place in our community.
