
Coming forward is never easy, and it takes real courage to share these experiences, especially after so many years. I’m keeping Dolores Huerta, Ana Murguía, and Debra Rojas in my thoughts. Dolores has long shown what courage looks like through a lifetime of fighting for others, and that same courage is evident today.
Honoring that legacy means listening to survivors, supporting them, and ensuring accountability where harm has occurred.
These reports are deeply troubling, and we take them seriously. While the information is still emerging, we will engage our city’s leadership and community in a thoughtful process to consider how we recognize the farmworker movement in our public spaces, holidays, and civic life—including reviewing the naming of public facilities—in a way that is responsive to this moment and grounded in our values.
