Final days to apply. Our second collaboration with the @icamiami Art + Research Program features guest curator and researcher Doreen Rios Her work engages critically with contemporary digital culture, examining how technological infrastructures shape authorship, value, circulation, and power within the art ecosystem. Through curatorial practice, research, and writing, Ríos investigates the cultural implications of emerging technologies and their impact on artistic production. Over six weeks, artists will take part in live critiques, receive mentorship, and develop new work inside the Loop Metaverse using XR Studio software (courtesy of Onland.io). The residency will culminate in a collectively curated exhibition. ⚪ Theme: Technological Counterproduction: system misuse and reinvention ⚪ Artists Selected: April 3rd ⚪ Cohort meet & Greet: April 10th ⚪ Critique session: April 13th - May 22nd ⚪ Preparation for exhibition: May 25th - June 5th ⚪ Exhibition opens: June 11th ⚪ Exhibition closes: October 5th 🔗 APPLY HERE form.jotform.com/260173232162143

We live inside an artwork One of the most interesting aspects of the Loop sessions is that we begin knowing almost nothing about the artists. We don’t know their backgrounds, their personal lives, their interests, what they look like, whether they work, or even how old they are. These things may appear only if each person chooses to share them, gradually and on their own terms. What matters here is not how many likes someone has, where they come from, or where they have exhibited before. Instead, it becomes a safe space to talk about art, exchange tools and knowledge, and focus on the development of ideas. In many ways, the works themselves become the place where these unknowns begin to unfold. Through the final pieces, we start to understand the artists more deeply.

Artworks that exist in the verse. @__lindaloh__ work is part of the collective exhibition Mad World from Cohort 19, where she presents her work alongside fifteen other artists. Current Show Inspired by Mad World and the film Donnie Darko, the exhibition reflects on repetition, memory, and the search for meaning in a world that seems to loop endlessly. Drawing from Ursula K. Le Guin’s Carrier Bag Theory, the show gathers fragments of time, melancholy, curiosity, and wonder into a contemporary myth for the present moment. Join us tomorrow at 12 PM EST. 🔗RSVP bit.ly/4kVJaQT Over the past weeks, @JillianMayer has participated in closed sessions with the Cohort 20 artists. Her expertise and critical feedback have significantly contributed to the development of the group’s work. We are now opening this conversation to the public. In this online talk, Jillian Mayer will share insights into her work, unpacking the concepts, processes, and questions that shape her exploration of digital culture and contemporary life. A multidisciplinary artist working across video, sculpture, performance, and immersive media, her practice critically examines our relationship with technology, the body, and the internet, challenging how we construct identity in an increasingly virtual world.

It’s always good to have @Blender as a friend! Artists participating in Loop come from many different backgrounds, which is why we try to bring in workshops that offer tools to support and expand their artistic practices in different ways. In today’s session, we had a Blender workshop led by former Loopie Brian Zeeger

City of the Forgotten is an artwork by Michael Lewy @mlewy, currently part of our exhibition Mad World. Mike was part of Cohort 19 and has been selected once again to join Cohort 20 Visit it Here verse.loop.onland.io/EiQs9zT/portal What makes our selection process particularly interesting is that each jury is different and evaluates artists based solely on their work, not on names or biographies. Every invited selector makes their decision independently, and Loop does not influence this process. This is why some applicants are selected two or more times. You’re welcome to apply, or not apply, as many times as you like ;))))

Open Critique Club: The Louise Bourgeois Sunday Salon A place where, for a moment, we stop being ourselves and become our art. Inspired by the gatherings Louise Bourgeois hosted on Sundays in her New York studio, this salon brings artists and thinkers together for open conversation, exchange, and reflection on their work and ideas. Anyone can join. We discuss works in progress, references to other artists, and the questions that shape our practice, creating an open, non-hierarchical space where artists at different stages can exchange, challenge one another, and reflect together in a friendly, non-judgmental environment. Open to everyone Every Sunday from 12-2 PM and 5-7 PM EST Hosted by @twt_cha_ JOIN US HERE bit.ly/4pX5avK

Loop Art Critique began as my contribution to the 2022 MUD Foundation exhibition WASD. Many factors went into its creation but mostly it was a work in response to my own lived experience as an artist trying to learn, grow, and show work. The artworks were hosted on Onland.io, a metaverse platform built by MUD using open source technology. At the time, my intention was to keep Loop running for the full year long exhibition. Since then, tweaks have happened and many experiments have reshaped certain aspects, but Loop remains largely the same. Loop is designed for small groups of six to eight artists, digital or not, because WE ARE ALL ARTISTS. The Open Call process was intentionally created to prevent the same people from being selected over and over again. Artists submit five artworks only. No CVs, no artist statements, and no written materials of any kind are allowed. This approach is not only about avoiding name recognition. It also opens the door for artists who did not have the opportunity to attend college or attend a so-called "good school", artists who live in non-advantageous locations where the right connections are harder to make, and artists who, for any reason, do not want their appearance tied to how their work is judged. This grant supports technology that allows more people to access and use Loop. It is for artists who do not yet have the skills to optimize assets for a spatial internet environment and for artists who do not speak English. Loop’s net has always been wide, and it is now even wider through its inclusion in the ICA Art and Research Center. Part of what makes the metaverse powerful is that anyone on the planet can access it. When participants come from different parts of the world, there is no single echo chamber of shared assumptions, politics, references, or canonical influences. What emerges instead is horizontal, individualized, organic, needs suggested, education through engagement. Artist critique is ancient. What we are doing is continuing that lineage while dismantling prolonged institutional barriers and the self constructed boxes artists and artists-run spaces place around themselves.

We’re excited to announce that the @knightfdn has selected us as a grantee of the Knight Art + Tech Expansion Fund!! This support will allow us to continue strengthening our space and developing new tools that expand accessibility, including enhanced capabilities to manipulate and adapt files within the space, as well as multilingual features. As a result, our spaces and landscapes will become more welcoming and inclusive to navigate. We will be working alongside Mud Foundation in the development of technologies that will enable these new tools.
