Hearing a president respond to the deaths of service members with that’s the way it is comes across incredibly detached. People understand that war carries risks, but moments like this are supposed to show empathy, responsibility, and respect for the lives lost, not a sense of inevitability or acceptance. When families are grieving and the country is watching, leadership should sound human first, not resigned to more deaths as if they’re just part of the background.
