fMRI shows that semantic representations in left fusiform bias visual memory toward false recognition, whereas perceptual representations in right fusiform support true recognition and reduce false memory. Distinct hippocampal pathways push memory toward generalization or detail.

Our data suggests that older adults with lower specificity of visual representations in EVC in combination with higher specificity of semantic representations in FG tended to rate their memories as more vivid, thus potentially compensating for age-related dedifferentiation in EVC

Do not miss the workshop tomorrow @mpib_berlin Study 1- fMRI.Semantic kmowledge at encoding eliminates age differences in true recognition through compensation. Study 2- fMRI. Is semantic processing at encoding causing false memory in aging?revisiting Koutstaal (2003)'s SCA idea

🧠Berlin in San Francisco🧠for #CNS2022 *A103, Sat 4/23, 3:30-5:30pm*. We used RSA to investigate the contributions of visual and semantic information to later recall of everyday objects in young and older adults. Come to know more about it! @C_Stensholt @RobertoECabeza

New preprint from our lab! Target-lure similarity is a much stronger predictor of lure false alarms in the mnemonic similarity task than poor encoding at study. Eye movements at encoding predict hippocampal activation at test for correct but not incorrect lure discrimination.
