They didn’t “copy”. They adopted the alphabet and added vowels. The Phoenician alphabet already had the alpha “A” character as well as the Ayin “O” character the Waw “Y” and He “E” character which were used for the vowels Alpha, Omicron/Omega, Upsilon and Epsilon. So vowels were already there in some sense. The word “alpha” isn’t even Greek. It comes from the Semitic word “aleph” which means ox. BETA is also not a Greek word and comes from the Semitic word for house “bet”. It’s only after they adopt the alphabet that aleph and beta are used for one and two but the Greeks already had Ena and Duo before that. Anyone who studies the Iron Age knows that this is just true. Now some scholars do suggest that some of the Phoenician characters were inspired by Linear B script but that it was a combination of Egyptian and Linear B to make a universal script for easier Mediterranean trading. The Phoenicians were the major traders in that time period and lived among the Greeks in their Aegean islands and on the coasts of Italy and Sicily. The Greeks themselves tell us this: "These Phoenicians who came with Cadmus... brought with them to Hellas, among many other kinds of learning, the alphabet, which had been unknown before this, I think, to the Greeks." (Histories 5.58)  You don’t have to make up revisionist history to make the Greeks “the best”. It just makes you look uneducated.
