It was beautiful being along the Humber River yesterday clearing litter. Many people also found their sanctuary there along the banks, relaxing & reflecting. We are so fortunate to have this river in Toronto, we must protect it. #stophwy413 #watershed

If you're out for a walk this weekend and notice dead fish in local wetlands, ponds, or along the lakeshore, don’t be alarmed! This is likely a natural occurrence known as a winter fish kill, which happens after long, harsh winters. Thick ice and heavy snow can block sunlight, reducing oxygen levels in the water. In shallow areas, ice may even reach the bottom, making it difficult for fish to survive. Now that the ice has melted, these natural winter losses have become visible. While it may look concerning, winter fish kills are a normal seasonal event. Nature has its own cleanup crew—scavengers like raccoons and turkey vultures will happily take care of most of the fish, returning valuable nutrients to the ecosystem. 🌱🐟 #SpringThaw #FunFact #DidYouKnow

Microplastic pollution is disrupting photosynthesis across ecosystems and cropland, threatening our food security in ways we've drastically underestimated. These invisible particles degrade our soils and undermine the biological foundation of our food system...🧵

My column: A Montreal company is building greenhouses on unused building rooftops. They now grow 200,000 vegetables per week. Their newest greenhouse is on a Walmart. If this was done just to Walmarts, Canada would cut its annual vegetable imports by 15%. winnipegfreepress.com/opinion/analys…
