Well my patreon got nuked again. This is the 3rd time in 5 years the NCAA/NFL have forced me to start over, so I think I'm over it I've deleted all my professional Twitter accounts and am just going to use this one now. It was fun while it lasted I guess Anyways. Hi! I'm Damien

@JBBHoops1 @_gettingBuckets I think we're pretty far apart on Kobe as well then. I think playing in the dead-ball era was ideal for a guy like him, Dirk, and Timmy High-volume tough-shot thin-margin offense is maximized when defense is available in spades

@LotionOf @_gettingBuckets Kobe would have been pretty crazy in 2026 Sometimes you just have players who are slight mismatches for the meta of their era Jarrett Allen could average 20+ easily with a coach willing to actually post him

@JBBHoops1 @_gettingBuckets Even IF we say theyre similar levels creators to Tatum, they lack the ancillary skills Tatum provides, which is his whole value edge the league Pre-achilles, I'd argue the only guys who contributed in more ways to their team at a high level are Bron, KG, and Bird

@LotionOf @_gettingBuckets I think possibly? I definitely went overboard saying he'd challenge SGA and Jokic (though I don't think the gap between those two and the rest is as far as people say it is, healthy Tatum is right up there for me) but I don't think he's any lower than top 7-8

@JBBHoops1 @_gettingBuckets My apologies for writing it wrong. I'm referring to guys who are ideal as these stationary creators. Who even in a good enviorment won't or cant play with pace And I'm narrowing it down to perimeter creators. Obviously Duncan, Olajuwon and such managed it with great defense

@JBBHoops1 @_gettingBuckets But a guy being incapable of playing with pace seems to be a deathnail The only successful MVPish stand-still creators who didn't have that 2nd gear are CP3, Harden, and Luka? So to say Roy can achieve that MVP height, he needs to either play with that pace, or be mega passers

@JBBHoops1 @_gettingBuckets To the level of challenging Shai and Jokic? By this framing, Kobes peak if he was born in 2000 would be the GOAT by a significant margin

@JBBHoops1 @_gettingBuckets Cade definetly But Books most successful sustained stints was next to a guy who kept him playing with pace in CP3 Maxeys best offense is still two-man game and high-speed creation The reps he gets from a standstill are more a function of Phillys limits rather than desire

@JBBHoops1 @_gettingBuckets He wasn't asked to buoy that offense though. The data suggets Lowry is who drove those teams to their highs and upping Derozans usage had negative effects And I think the tape agrees. Early 3par star and a very gifted passer

@LotionOf @_gettingBuckets DeMar is a good case study IMO because we've seen him in both pre-3 point revolution hoops And post And he's a guy whose process evolved quite a bit, because Raptors DeMar was not someone who could singlehandedly buoy offenses as a lone ballhandler

@JBBHoops1 @_gettingBuckets I mean that the reps themselves are all-or-nothing in that you either get a tremendous shot, or an awful one Not a lot of C+ offense there. And unless youre Lebron, MJ, Shaq, or Curry, teams WILL take away a huge chunk of your A+ offense

@LotionOf @_gettingBuckets Joe definitely couldn't shoulder current SGA load, but that's why SGA is the MVP. I'm taking SGA, Jokic, and probably Tatum (healthy) over Joe in 2026 BUT you can't like be certain for how Joe's game (and processing) would've developed in 2026 IMO

@JBBHoops1 @_gettingBuckets Look at a list of guys who get to play with that rhythm though Luka, Brunson, Shai, Giannis, Kawhi, Harden, and thats it? Embiid couldn't make it work, the Suns have been forcing Book to be more dynamic for years now. I've a tough time saying Roy is closer to Kawhi than Book

@_gettingBuckets @JBBHoops1 We see a sharp drop after 2020 after he bulked up a bit, which changes the type of middies available MJ had a similar change in type of mid-range shots when he bulked up from those hang pull type stuff to more back-down stationary type of shots

@JBBHoops1 @_gettingBuckets I just dont think he was a nimble enough athlete to be late on his reads like Shai gets away with, or strong enough to bail out of traffic efficiently like Jaylen It's an all-or-nothing proposition. Thats a tough place to be come playoff time and Caruso is chasing you

@JBBHoops1 @_gettingBuckets I think Roy in particular fell into the Luka problem of needing some time and dribbles to operate Joe was better in this regard because of his willingness to pop the 3, but he lacked some of that strength to maintain a line to the rim, so even he pales off the catch in my eyes

@JBBHoops1 @_gettingBuckets I'm trying to get there with you, but you need to give me more than "just better" I think it'd help to narrow it down to two guys. So 24-25 Tatum vs 10-12 Joe. Even if I thought Joe was a superior shooting talent, Tatum is more sound as a driver and passer Not to mention pace
