The fact that, in order to organize, they had to go to the Rwandan 🇷🇼 embassy in the USA shows how loyal they are to Rwanda. The absence of any Congolese opposition leaders from Kinshasa also suggests that they are not truly Congolese. We know that Rwanda will do anything to maintain its presence in Congo, because the backbone of Rwanda’s economy is linked to Congo.

Willy Ngoma was not some anonymous “rebel mouthpiece.” He was a Congolese citizen, born in Bas-Congo, and a former member of the UDPS, the very party of Félix Tshisekedi. Much to the chagrin of Tshisekedi and some of his allies in South Africa, Ngoma’s political roots were inside the Congolese opposition itself. He was part of a generation that believed change was possible. And yes, he did not lie when he said: “I did protect his father, Étienne Tshisekedi, in South Africa. He spoiled us rotten for 14 months in Kinshasa. Our objective was to overthrow Joseph Kabila!” Étienne Tshisekedi spent years in exile and political struggle. Many Congolese activists, including Ngoma, stood by him during those years.
