A very happy 55th (not so young any more - ha!) to @jeremydenk! How appropriate that you share a birthday with Liberace...Thanks for the MANY memorable rehearsals: 'Can you guys maybe just let the piano through here?' (Shoulders shake). 'Just for kicks?" The fun we have! Haha.

@jeremydenk Sorry for teasing you! I do really want you to play something of my own piano music. I was enjoying your recording of Moz 25 PC yesterday

@jeremydenk Ah, you missed my point! This is from Grieg’s own arrangement of Mozart’s G major sonata… the “mash up” keep up, Jeremy 😅

@LouisMander limpid, harmonically fairly simple, but rhythmically full of interesting interplay and unpredictability, the grace notes, syncopations, the sense of a teasing/flirting style mixed with classical symmetry … for me clearly vastly more inspired?

@LouisMander It would be fun to have a Mozart vs Grieg development section smack down

@StevenIsserlis Grieg’s sonata form works are often his most successful; often eclipsed by the fluffy favourites. Except the piano concerto which is the exception. Wow. String quartet in G minor and the 3rd violin sonata as well as the loving cello sonata he composed for his brother x

Connie Shih and I are playing the Grieg cello sonata on our current US tour. It's so wonderfully loveable - and yet so often dismissed. Why? It is warm-hearted, sincere, lyrical, and touchingly beautiful. Those who turn their noses up at such music rob themselves of much joy...

🌸🎵 Beautiful Melody 🎶💖
Sir Clifford Curzon (1907–1982) was a master interpreter of Schubert and a brilliant pianist overall. His joy in performing Schubert’s Moments Musicaux No. 3, D. 780, is palpable. F

I was excited to be mobbed by a group of school kids in Catford just now - until I discovered they thought I was David Attenborough. Disconcertingly, this has happened to me before. More than once. I suppose I should be flattered - even though Sir David is 22 years my senior.
