Midlife Awakening - Coming Home to Myself #11 The Dance Between Vulnerability & Anger Your anger is your vulnerability's protector. This is totally a natural reaction, except it works AGAINST you like an enemy: 🌿 Your anger invites their anger out to protect their vulnerability. 🌿 The worse the fight between 2 protectors, the more damage to the relationship, and the more suffering both vulnerabilities feel. 🌿 After bruises and bleeding, the real problems hidden in the vulnerabilities have NOT even been looked at. 🌿 The real problem is waiting quietly to trigger your next fight, and next... Until one day you decide to show curiosity and compassion for their vulnerability. Then the love and connection will bloom, and the problems will be eradicated once and for all.

Midlife Awakening - Coming Home to Myself #31 Dual Awareness Instead of fusing with one emotion ("I am angry"), split your awareness: step into the calm observer who watches your inner parts without becoming them. Name what you notice: 🌿 A part of me is angry right now. 🌿 Another part feels sad and hurt. 🌿 There's also a worried part saying, "What if I never get what I need?" This creates space. You're not the feeling—you're holding it with curiosity. From here, trace each part's root beliefs: • What fear is anger protecting? • What old wound fuels the sadness? • What disaster is worry avoiding? Question those beliefs gently with your wiser midlife view → less inner conflict, more harmony. If you're interested in understanding and healing your inner parts, the book No Bad Parts by Richard C. Schwartz is highly effective. What parts have been loud for you lately?

Midlife Awakening - Coming Home to Myself #30 Boundaries Your boundary style often takes root in childhood, shaped by how your family handled "yes" and "no." If "no" was met with rejection, punishment, or shame, saying it feels impossible. If vulnerability felt unsafe, you may have learned to default to "no" quickly. Many swing between the two: people-pleasing one moment, then walling up the next - leaving resentment on both sides. These learned patterns are actually choices we can remake. 🌿 Adapt actively — adjust "yes" or "no" to what truly serves connection, respect, and your well-being right now (not old rules). 🌿 Anticipate and negotiate — Spot early signs of boundary crossing, name them calmly, and negotiate. Midlife is the season to stop surviving old scripts and start choosing and honoring the wiser, more authentic you. 💖

Love Rescue #71: Logic vs Emotions Logic used to be my protective shell. Whenever emotions flared, logic came to the rescue. I used to think that was a great thing. Maybe you do too. But there was a dark side to it. Emotional issues in marriage cannot be solved with logic. Negative emotions need positive emotions, not logic. We guys like to say "Facts don't care about your feelings!" And then we walk off like we just said "Checkmate!" to Gary Kasparov. But I've got news for you. Their feelings don't care about your facts. And marriages are built with feelings. If they were built with facts, it would be a business, not a marriage. That's where psychological air comes in. So many of the fights you've had are not what they were about on the surface. They actually got going because she is desperate for some love, validation, appreciation, and apologies. Those are the psychological air she needs so much. Don't measure out love, validation, and appreciation with a stingy, logic-based, merit system. Be excessively generous. Because if you are generous, she'll feel free to be generous also.

Love Rescue #70: Validation Take one thing your spouse has been complaining about, and surprise them. Find any and all kernels of truth, and approach them out of the blue, and validate their feelings, and promise to change. Validation is like psychological air to a drowning person. When they're feeling good, you can then ask them to change something for you. You're much more likely to make progress this way than rehashing complaints in a fight.

Nobody warns you about the 3 stages: - Invisible when you start. - Inconvenient when you grow. - Threatening when you arrive. The criticism didn't mean you were wrong. It meant you were moving. Keep going. The noise is just proof.

Midlife Awakening - Coming Home to Myself #29 Somatic Healing Part 5: Story Time As a child, Susan was regularly beaten by her mom. Powerless to fight or flee, she curled into a tight ball and froze—waiting for it to end. Decades later, at 60+, her body still carries that frozen story: 🌿 Slow walk, head down, curled spine, limp arms. 🌿 When sharing frustrations (often dwelling on past negatives), she enters a familiar state: rapid, nonstop speech, shallow breathing, fixed gaze (avoiding eye contact), head dropping lower. Her body whispers: “I’m sad and powerless.” The toll is heavy—chronic exhaustion, needing deep reserves of energy even for a short walk, and quick escalation to panic with everyday stressors. She hasn’t accepted transformation sessions yet, trusting prayer instead. With love and best wishes to her, Susan’s story powerfully illustrates how unresolved emotional imprints affect one's body—shaping movements, posture, breath, energy, and daily resilience. The body continues carrying and paying for the price. With gentle interventions, the body, emotions, and beliefs can learn to transform. 💖 What old somatic pattern have you noticed in yourself or someone close?

Midlife Awakening - Coming Home to Myself #28 Somatic Healing Part 4 Try this simple exercise for an emotion that traps you (e.g., anger): 🌿 Recall a moment of strong anger—let yourself feel it fully. 🌿 Scan your body: notice the tension (tight jaw, clenched fists, rigid shoulders, contracted belly…). 🌿 Now, one by one, soften those areas—imagine them melting, releasing, becoming loose and warm. Watch the anger fade as the body relaxes. Next time the feeling rises, quickly release those key tension muscles. For even faster relief, pair it with this: while softening the muscles, call up a peaceful, joyful memory that floods you with calm. Practice a few times—you’ll soon catch the spark early and reclaim control. Train your body to be your ally in emotional freedom.
