🧵Over 4 years ago, I filed a police complaint against the Halifax Regional Police due to their insufficient investigation, discriminatory actions, and apathy after reporting that I was the victim of a drugging, kidnapping, and gang rape by multiple strange men.

Join our Mi'kma'ki community of survivors, advocates and allies to stand with those experiencing gender based violence, and to remember those lost to intimate partner homicides. Meet us outside HRP headquarters, and march to Nova Scotia Legislature on February 19. /

@dark_kermit_1 @HfxRegPolice @AndyFillmoreHFX @MLABarbAdams @beckykentHRM I complete share your frustration. I don't expect much from the police at this point, but I also refuse to be complacent. Continuing to to accept that 'we are on our own' won't lead to change. By coming together as a community, we can demand transparency & accountability from HRP

Yesterday, I sent an open letter to Chief Don MacLean of Halifax Regional Police (HRP) calling for the immediate adoption of the Violence Against Women Advocate Case Review (VACR) model. /

By August 2024, a shocking 91% of sexual offences reported to Halifax Regional Police and RCMP Halifax Regional Departments (HRD) Sexual Assault Investigation Team (SAIT) resulted in no charges. Out of 2,006 cases reported since 2020, only 324 charges have been laid. /

HRP's refusal to implement VACR is not just disappointing-it's a betrayal of survivors and their right to justice. Halifax needs more than excuses; we need real action. Survivors deserve a justice system that listens, acts, and prioritizes their dignity, safety, and well-being. /

@jeccagae I couldn’t haven’t gotten through this without you! You have been such a solid & consistent friend over the last couple years. I am so grateful for our friendship! Even though you are completely on the other side of the country, you have always made time for me! I love you! 🫂

Carrie took her case to every level possible. The ultimate verdict: yes, this happened but no one will be punished for it. No justice in the “justice system”…at what point do victim-survivors actually matter here?! The bar to secure a conviction is unattainable high.

Today, I learned the Supreme Court of Canada dismissed the Crown's application for leave to appeal in my criminal case—without providing any reasons. "They receive hundreds of applications from across Canada every year, so they aren't required to explain each decision." /

@wildandorganic Thank you Jen! Honestly, I expected this outcome , but when it actually becomes reality, it’s so much harder to comprehend and process than I had anticipated. I’m truly devastated. Advocating for all of us survivors has been the only healing I’ve found.

@ElJonesPoet Thank you for your continued support!, it truly means a lot to me. Although the criminal process may be over, my work is far from finished. I can focus all my energy on the Judicial Review of the NS Police Review Board decision! My life’s mission is to hold police accountable!

I’m starting a new hashtag for cases of officers who cannot & should not be trusted with power. #UnfitForPower Usually they’re kept on the job which sends a very clear msg to women that the institution of policing doesn’t think violating us is a deal-breaker.

This person should have been fired, should have been charged so that he never again can serve in a position like this. Do what is right! Take a stand!

I'm deeply grateful to ppl who seek judicial review of poor police oversight decisions. Ppl experiencing grief/trauma should NEVER have to do this, but it helps others so much. Thank you to the Dorzyk-D'Arthenay families & to @cancivlib. cbc.ca/news/canada/to…
