Spotify and Universal Music Group have announced a licensing deal that will let Spotify Premium users create AI-generated covers and remixes of songs from participating artists and songwriters. The upcoming tool will launch as a paid add-on and is designed to let artists and songwriters earn money from licensed fan-made AI covers and remixes. Spotify says the model is built around “consent, credit, and compensation.”

I’ve got a theory. When people don’t create music art ideas anything… they start creating problems instead. Unused energy gets weird.

@nazfromnewham tbh the demand is there but uk infrastrucure and the economy is the enemy of progress man, are enough spaces available to support subcultures? might have to get creative and start raving in school gyms and halls like its the 90s again

@LowuSounds Factual! I wonder how to get young ppl enmasse outside. It’s definitely happening in pockets (I hate when ppl say my gen aren’t in the dance because it’s cap) but it’s needed on a large scale to shift music and create subcultures.

I love homegrown sounds sm and fully believe that gen z need to commit to bringing music into the dance, we can’t just experience these sounds in the digital sphere or they’ll go as quickly as they came.

I wonder what it’ll take for the UK ug’s music to be prominent in every corner of this country like UK Rap of the 2010s. As popular as the sound and artists are unfortunately it doesn’t feel universal in the same way as J Hus or Dave did during the release of their debut albums.

The majority of people offering UK music opinions on Twitter have never written a song, released a record or put on a rave. Incredible amount of negativity on ere from back seat drivers with all the answers.

Being a musician in 2026 is basically just busking online. We're all spending our days posting content on insta and tiktok hoping to god it generates a sale or two of our music, or a booking. I'm literally sat here right now producing a content roll out instead of making music.
