
Mayor Steve Rotheram has hailed Friday as an 'unbelievably momentous day' for the Liverpool City Region after the Combined Authority agreed to take Merseyrail into public ownership.
Such was the significance of the move, it was referenced in Friday's speech by incoming Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
As well as plans to take full control of Merseyrail in 2028, an extension of £2 bus fares in the City Region was also announced at Friday's Combined Authority meeting.
