As icons of the Liverpool City Region and one of our top visitor attractions, we’re incredibly proud that our ferries are part of this year’s Hamburg Port Anniversary Festival – the #HamburgerHafengeburtstag. In the LCR Festival space, our crew are working alongside staff on stands from The Beatles Story and other key attractions to bring the best of our region to life for festivalgoers from around the world. At the heart of the action, visitors can immerse themselves in our regional heritage and use our VR experience to step aboard the Royal Daffodil - the first new Mersey Ferry in more than 60 years. Still under construction at Cammell Laird shipyard, on the banks of the River Mersey, her modern design and accessible open spaces offer an amazing new perspective on the legendary Liverpool City Region skyline.

Exciting new images have revealed what the proposed £1.2 billion Kings development in Liverpool could look like. The landmark plans for the site just north of the city centre and near to the waterfront would see ten buildings created, including a 70-storey tower, which would be the city’s tallest building. Once completed, the area would benefit from 2,750 homes as well as 400 hotel rooms, 150,000 sq ft of offices and 160,000 sq ft for retail and leisure. Pictures show how the new neighbourhood could look including a central plaza and a winter garden. A planning application for the scheme is due later in the year.

Creative Cities Convention ended on a high today with a brilliant conversation featuring surprise guest Craig Cash. From The Royle Family to Early Doors, his work has helped define British comedy - grounded in real lives, sharp observation and a strong sense of place. Across the last two days, we’ve heard from leading voices across film, TV and digital - tackling everything from commissioning and AI to working-class representation and the future of UK broadcasting. Wrapping up the Creative Cities Convention in conversation with Stuart Murphy, Craig reflected on his journey into TV, the importance of regional voices and why authenticity still matters in creating stories that connect.

The session “Whose Voice Is It Anyway?” brought powerful, personal insight to the Creative Cities Convention today. Andrea Arnold (American Honey, Fish Tank, Bird) and Tony Schumacher (The Responder, The Cage) shared their different journeys into the screen industries - from council houses and homelessness - highlighting the realities of breaking in, staying authentic and telling stories that truly reflect where you’re from. “See who you are as an asset. If you can start telling authentic stories to people different to you - people will listen.” A reminder of why supporting diverse talent across the UK is key to the future of the industry. #CCLiverpool

It was a transfer that shook the footballing world: England captain #KevinKeegan leaves European Champions Liverpool FC for Hamburg SV. It was 1977. And the move set a then record transfer fee. However, Keegan and #LiverpoolFC continued to be successful. Kevin became a club icon for a second time, helping HSV win the 1978–79 Bundesliga title, and reached the 1980 European Cup final. He also won the Ballon d'Or twice in 1978 and 1979. Still the only English player to do so. Fast forward to almost 50 years later, and "Mighty Mouse" is now the subject of a special exhibition celebrating the links between Liverpool City Region and Hamburg. Entitled Harbour Cities: Global Stages, the free exhibition can be viewed in Hamburg City Hall until May 25th. It covers a number of themes to showcase the similarities of the two historic maritime giants, and how their ports influenced their peoples, traditions, academia and culture from music to sport. It also features a special section on #TheBeatles with rare photographs and letters, written by the original five members whilst in Hamburg from 1960-1962, exploring the massive impact the German city had on the fledging band. Created to celebrate the City Region’s role as the official partner of Hamburg’s annual port festival – Hafengeburtstag - it is hoped the exhibition will also go on display in Liverpool in the summer. The exhibition opened as a Liverpool City Region business and culture delegation heads to Hamburg to strengthen economic ties with the Hanseatic city. Fascinating to hear from Liverpool's own Sir Phil Redmond (Grange Hill, Brookside and Hollyoaks) at the Creative Cities Conference today reflecting on storytelling in an era shaped by platforms, algorithms and global audiences. Key takeaways: •Tech comes and goes - it's important to stay relevant to your specific audience - how do you do that - by listening •Being a storyteller is that you have to surprise people - that is the art of storytelling •The fundamentals still matter: authenticity, place and human experience Today is really shaping up to be a day of bold ideas, big questions and creative ambition.

Great to be at the Creative Cities Conference at Camp and Furnace, where leaders from across the sector have come together to explore how creativity is shaping our places, economies and identities in a fast-changing world. One standout session focused on This City Is Ours - dubbed the “Scouse Sopranos” and one of the BBC’s most talked-about dramas - putting Liverpool firmly in the spotlight. The team shared an inside look at bringing the series to screen, from early development and storytelling through to casting and capturing an authentic sense of place. With a second series now confirmed, it’s a powerful example of how local storytelling and talent can create work that resonates. #CCLiverpool

As a delegation from Liverpool City Region heads to Hamburg this week to build economic ties in our role as the official partner of Hamburg’s annual port festival, a special Beatles exhibition is launching in the town that helped put them on the map. It features a rare set of Beatles photographs and letters written by the band’s five original members whilst learning their craft on the club circuit in the Reeperbahn district during the early 1960s. The Combined Authority has created the exhibition in co-operation with the Hamburg Senate, with support from National Museums Liverpool, The Beatles Story, The Cavern and The Stuart Sutcliffe Estate👉 ow.ly/sOPS50YVzse
