Don’t miss the rare opportunity to see the world-famous Minton tile floor at Liverpool’s St George's Hall this summer. The magnificent masterpiece, comprising around 30,000 hand-crafted tiles, is normally concealed beneath a protective wooden floor and is regarded as one of the finest examples of Victorian design anywhere in the world. Last revealed in 2023, more than 20,000 visitors from across the UK descended on the city to squeeze in a trip to see the breathtaking mosaic, but this year’s extended unveiling until September will give more time for people to enjoy this piece of history. And there’s a diverse programme of events on offer. 👉ow.ly/WtNr50ZoUPc

The eyes of the golfing world are on Liverpool City Region this weekend for the finale of the British Open at Royal Birkdale and one thing they cannot miss is a giant 1,000 square metre portrait of Southport-born golfing legend Tommy Fleetwood in Liverpool city centre. 👀 The enormous artwork has been created on the grass at Chavasse Park at Liverpool ONE to celebrate the world’s oldest golf tournament. Using special grass pitch-marking paint, the 40m x 25m image of the eight-times European Tour winner took three people two days to create. ⛳

'A decent home isn't a privilege - it's the foundation for everything else in life.' With sky-high rents, a cost-of-living crisis and a lack of affordable housing fuelling a rise in homelessness across the UK, the Combined Authority yesterday approved plans to set up a Liverpool City Region Homelessness Task Force to accelerate action to tackle the root causes. We believe it’s time to find a lasting solution, building on the success of pioneering initiatives like Housing First that have delivered real hope for people without a home. We'll continue those great schemes while the Task Force shifts the focus from crisis response to proactive prevention and long-term impact - fulfilling one of @MetroMayorSteve’s manifesto pledges to bring partners together to deliver a tailored regional programme. Because everyone deserves a safe and secure place to call home. To help us, we’ve secured £18.6m from government to expand our work until 2029. This video reveals more👇

Good news for bus passengers in the Liverpool City Region 🚍 Mayor Rotheram has confirmed the £2 adult single fare will remain in place for now. Alongside MyTicket - which offers young people up to the age of 19 unlimited bus travel for just £2.20 a day - and the most generous concessionary travel scheme in the country, the fare cap is helping residents continue to access affordable travel, connecting them to opportunity, each other and all the region has to offer.

Liverpool Lime Street is set to join a raft of stations across the country benefiting from new ticket gates as part of the government’s landmark rail reforms. £33.4 million of funding is supporting the rollout, including installation of new taller gates to prevent barrier jumping. The new initiative will crack down on deliberate ticketless travel and make sure fares go towards improving the services passengers depend on. 👉ow.ly/Q7op50ZoxMM

#ICYMI |It’s been a whole week since #Birkenhead made the shortlist for UK Town of Culture – so what’s next? Each of the 15 towns shortlisted across the three (small, medium and large town) categories now receive £60,000 to develop their full bids. Birkenhead will explain how it will use culture to celebrate their town, showcase original storytelling, empower its local communities and provide more accessible culture in the local area. One finalist will then be selected from each category by an independent judging panel with the overall winner being announced early next year. With a £3 million grant from government, the overall winner will go on to host a season of culture in 2028, which will help them to deliver a long-lasting legacy of cultural participation and local pride. And Birkenhead has what it takes! 👉

Liverpool was today hosting another major TV production, with film crews working on the upcoming drama series Army of Shadows spotted across the city. The six-part thriller is a dystopian reimagining of Jean-Pierre Melville's classic French Resistance film. Set in a near-future Britain under de facto American occupation, the series follows a former British Army officer as he builds a covert resistance movement, exploring the challenges, sacrifices and moral dilemmas faced by people fighting to reclaim their country. Written by Top Boy and The Day of the Jackal creator Ronan Bennett, Army of Shadows is being co-produced by Channel 4 and Canal+, alongside STUDIOCANAL and Two Cities Television. Liverpool joins Manchester, London and Paris as filming locations, with the city once again showcasing the versatility and character of its streets and architecture. Major film and television productions continue to choose the Liverpool City Region as a backdrop, bringing investment into the local economy, supporting jobs and businesses, and strengthening the region's reputation as one of the UK's leading destinations for screen production.

@MetroMayorSteve visited @LazizCafe - a community business in St Helens that uses food and language classes to build connections between local people, refugees and asylum seekers. The project was one of the first to be supported by @kindred_lcr - an independent Community Interest Company set up in 2020 with £5.5m from the Combined Authority to support socially trading organisations. Since then Kindred has gone on to create more than £35m in economic and social value, investing £3m in 51 socially trading organisations and creating 200 jobs.
