BREAKING - A B.C. wide ban on social gatherings and events has been extended with no end date. The province wants to review vaccines, variants and outbreaks before either expanding or reducing current restrictions. #bcpoli

Not sound

@keithbaldrey is correct - this isn't much of a change. Other jurisdictions across the world enforce masks unilaterally - #BCED makes a tiny tweak - no hard data is presented as to why we don't match the other provinces. This beggars the question of why anything was done at all.

Wow, I'd love to know what fancy little bubble Stephanie Higginson lives in. 90% of parents are NOT feeling Ok about their kids at school. They are feeling like they have NO CHOICE about their kids being at school. There is a LARGE amount of anxiety for parents. #bced

@Bernardo1130 @JM_Whiteside No they are worse now. Teachers know they are being ignored and devalued yet again. More gaslighting and making conditions the same or worse than before while patting themselves in the back #bced

Taking questions now, @JM_Whiteside downplays shift to make masks mandatory after MONTHS of parents and teachers demanding that. Re: will this alleviate anxiety? She says “we’re all feeling” that and it’s her hope revisions announced today will help. #bced #bcpoli

@richardzussman So masks are no longer required anywhere in elementary school. A big down grade in safety for them

Dr. Bonnie Henry says the safety plans in schools have been working and uses Girabaldi School as example. There was no spread (based on testing) in the schools. #bcpoli #bced

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says she’s proud of work done by all stakeholders to implement “robust” safety plans. She repeats exposures in schools reflect what’s happening in community and concerns remain re: spread of variant virus strains. #bced #bcpoli #COVID19

BCTF just voted to double strike pay #bced. Strange timing. Just signed a contract last spring.

@pattibacchus I don’t think teachers would agree to this. Both parents and teachers would have to vote in favour of this

Should #bced's spring break be postponed to the last half of June, when more people will be vaccinated and weather will be warmer, to discourage spring-break travel in March?

@DavidWa59907969 @Forbes @JM_Whiteside I’ve taught many years and you are so right l watched them grow up Creativity, objectivity, communicating in many mediums thinking critically will not be lost. It’s not the content but what you do with it that matters.

#bced. @Rob_Fleming just said that parents still have the option to take blended learning all through next week in ALL districts. Guess the presser doesn’t have to reflect what districts are doing

@bubbaray90 @jennscharf I’m sure Many parents waited to see what schools and attendance looked like only to find out they lost that option. Some wanted to talk with school for more details about online learning so they could make an informed decision.
